My biggest complaint is 8, SSB has fallen behind other fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Injustice in that regard.  The worst part is they were making a story mode, but then they threw a hissy fit because it got leaked on the internet.

That and the fact that when brawl came out, NO ONE would have defended the subspace emissary for a whole lot of different reasons. In the beginning of brawl almost everybody skipped the subspace emissary in its entirely and went online to watch the movie sequences to know the story anyway. So when the story got leaked, they feared that history would repeat itself and just cut it out altogether. Which is kinda the logical choice, I mean what's the point of doing a story if nobody plays it or even cares about it.

The subspace emissary needed some time to redeem itself, and nowadays it's pretty much seen as the best part of brawl instead of the worst. So let's hope the lack of story will follow a similar course.

If they did a story mode they wouldn't have to replicate what they did with SSE, they could change it up and copy what Mortal Kombat did.

I think its better than 64 and Brawl but Melee was just more fun in the fighting department. Ill have to disagree with you on most of those though. Melee was more unbalanced and im sure you consider it a better game. Melee had an unfair ledge game that cheesed gimps than actual strategy. The AI in melee is downright atrocious have you ever seen the video Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing in Melee? Rage machenic is a double edge sword for holding a stock longer you fly farther but you also knock them back farther.

but this is assuming you think Melee is the best in the series as I barely played brawl because I hated it.

Nintendoom predicter inbound! There was nothing wrong with this game, you're just being nitpicky. Counters are way overpowered though, but that's the beauty of it

Thanks for all the great memories!

Am I the only one who thinks this guy, and many other people take these games way too seriously?

I don't know, I'm having a ton of fun with it. It's definitely going to be up there with the likes of Zelda, Xenoblade and Mario Kart when it comes to games I spend the most time with.

I'm not really into die-hard competitive play (mostly I just like to play with siblings and friends), so even though I love the series, several of the complaints in the OP really don't affect me. What does affect me is the breadth of content; characters, levels, music, trophies, etc...which this entry definitely doesn't skimp out on. Smash Bros. has always been more of celebration of Nintendo's legacy in my eyes, and so the fact that they added this much new content, including characters, songs, and stages from lesser known games like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade, already puts this title miles above the previous three entries IMO.

The only potential complaint I really have so far is that there are a lot of carryover stages from Brawl, but since I haven't unlocked everything yet, I can't really speak to that. Single player story mode isn't something I really look for in a fighting game, and I can honestly say I never bothered going back to Subspace Emissary after completing it once. I enjoyed the Adventure Mode in Melee, but it definitely isn't something I expected out of the new entry.

Regardless of my own opinion though...I can't help but feel like 'abomination' might be hyperbole. I have a tough time seeing this game rated anything below a 7.5 due to its content and presentation alone; 'abomination' implies sub-5 scores in my book..

yeah I never understood a company reacting like that.  Tarantino almost scrapped Hatefull 8 because it was leaked.  I just wouldn't care I mean if people wanna spoil stuff for themselves then let them and if they care that much to find it on the internet they're probably going to buy it anyway.

If Smash Bros 4 is an abomination then 95% of games are abominations.

It's not an abomination (you're overthinking too much this, well, I suppose you're competitive players, so...), but I don't like it that much either, just another casual game for me to play online when I'm bored.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

You can't critique Smash 4 like that.

I don't have to take this.

I'm gonna go take a piss.
