I thought Nintendo had it easily. I even made a thread predicting the future. Thought the Xbox would be insanely powerful and that Sony couldn't afford to launch a PS4 until 2015 or so.

Boy, was I wrong!

By the end of the Wii U's launch and the Xbox One/PS4 reveals, it was obvious that the PS4 would not only win, it would dominate. The competition just seemed fucking clueless at times and as a Playstation Lover/Hater (it's complicated) that frustrated me to no end!

After the WiiU's reveal I honestly though it had a chance of winning this gen, but 2013 arrived and..... yeah!

Before the Xbox 1 reveal I thought Microsoft had a good chance. All they had to do was to continue with the 360 strategy and release a system with the same power as the PS4, spend some of M$'s money to sell it 50-100$ cheaper and get a few meaningful exclusives, but I understimated Don Mattrick.

I knew the PS4 would win this gen. What I didn't expect was the recovery of the XBone after the DRM fiasco. I thought it would crash and burn after the loss of confidence from the consumers, but it's selling well now.

Well before we saw or heard anything about the 8th gen consoles, I thought Nintendo would win. After the Wii U reveal, I had a strong feeling PS4 would win.

Honestly I was totally clueless! I was actually thinking that Pachter after all had some REAL inside information on sales patterns and demographics.

Yes, exactly the same, I had the order right (if it keeps this way), but the result is still quite different from what I expected (about 30% shares each). Especially for the Wii U, I thought it would still sell a lot for the name and the year ahead.

It's playing out as I'd expected. From the second I saw the Wii U (or didn't see it, since they only showed the controller) I knew it was going to be a flop, and in the run up to the launch of the PS4 and Xbone it was pretty clear from Microsoft's disastrous PR that they had been living in some kind of a bubble and were headed for a serious drubbing. Even long before that (2009-ish) while Sony was struggling to right their ship and trying be more receptive to consumer demands,  Microsoft was starting to look a little too pleased with themselves and, aside from the Kinect gambit, rested on their laurels with Halo, Gears, Halo, Fable, Halo, Forza, Halo, Halo... so this didn't surprise me at all.

Before the reveals I really thought Microsoft's money bin would make it possible to counter everything positive about the PS4 without Sony having money to respond.

In hindsight I should've expected a PS4 to sell more worldwide than an "Xbox 720" with identical price and specs (at the time we didn't know that PS4 would be both stronger and cheaper) considering the strong sales of the expensive and failed (inferior controller and architecture) PS3 and the fact that people had moved on from Kinect and the motion fad.

I guess I just thought that "Xbox 720" could expand the market share like Xbox 360 did with the help of Microsoft's money (low entry cost, better hardware, lots of 3rd party exclusives and plenty of PR).
