PS4 easily. Despite all of Sony's fuck ups with the ps3 they were still able to beat out Microsoft, despite all the the things Microsoft did right with the 360. Nintendo is a lost cause so it's no surprise they didn't stand a chance with the wii u.

It used to be the standard because of a reason: PSX - CD, PS2 - DVD, PS3 - BR. PS4 brought nothing new to the game.

Worldwide presence: X360 was totally irrelevant in Japan and behind in Europe, still it managed to hold on to its (one year) worldwide lead until the last year before the shift in generations.

The X360 sold 19 million more than PS3 in North America (48 vs 29). PS3 sold 8 million more than X360 in Europe (33 vs 25). The ratio for X360, Wii and PS3 in North America is 39% - 37% - 24%

I was sure of this before Xb one was announced with all it's bad decisions attached and as soon as Wii U was announced and its specs were known. The sales patterns of late gen 7 made gen 8 PS4's to lose. Sure, but not certain of course. One doesn't want to be too cocky.

The PS4 because when Sony revealed the concept of the console in February of 2013, they talked about what the developers could do and what the gamers could do with the system. Because of that, it created so much hype and excellent possibilities that could be done for the gaming industry. Gamers bought into the hype and bought the system. I own a PS4, but I didn't get it at launch though. I got it last week at my local GameStop and I personally love the system.

I thought PS4 and Xbox One would have even market share. But after the Xbox One reveal I knew PS4 will win. I never believed that Wii U will be first place this gen.

I didn't know before they were revealed, but I hoped it wouldn't be another Wii since I thought Wii was an awful console. After seeing the system reveals one by one, it was clearly PS4.

That's not it at all. I live in EU and while some families might have bought the consoles for dvds and brs, most didn't. All the people I know bought it for games. It doesn't even matter if they're exclusive or not...if it's on PS, it's exclusive to PS. The Japan situation stretches to a lot of other countries throughout the world. The word "console" is often replaced by "Playstation". (this was due to PS1+PS2 domination and hardly any Nintendo+MS presence, not because they played movies). PS4 didn't need to bring a successor to BR to achieve anything, it just needed to be called Playstation and not miss out on games like COD, GTA, etc. As well as not launch at a premium price. Success guaranteed.

PS3's launch price and late start was the cause of what you said, nothing else. With those out of the way, victory was assured from the start.

I never liked Wii U's asynchronous play thingy and I thought it was bound to sell somewhere in between N64 and Wii (if only).

Between PS4 and the "nextbox", it was clear PS4 would come up on top. PS3 outsold Xbox 360 all the time so without huge fuck up with the price it was clear to me PS4 would win.

I actually believed it was going to be a virtual tie between the X1 and PS4.

The X1 will dominate the US like the 360 did and the PS4 will take everything else like the PS3 did.

That was before the announcements. :/
