Ok, I'll spell it out.

The consesus on this site has become that the PS4 and ONE are selling already in China via imports or through HK.

Now, these are imports and thus region free.  The official release of the ONE and the China previews for the PS4 have proved that these official releases are beign recieved in a very luke warm way.  The imports will remain the dominant source for consoles.

Thus, they are already freely available unlocked if desired at a lower price or with some games thrown in for the same price.

I guess the consensus must change now though to fuel Warz?

Oh for pity sake. lmao.

To even compare that is so ridiculous. I guess when it comes to the relationship between you and Microsoft, all logic is thrown out the window.

Your argument then translates into, for example, Nintendo consoles not being region locked, because if you live outside Japan, all you need to do is import a Japanese console and Japanese games and they automatically become region free.

Also, the reception of official XOne is of course lukewarm, because it is REGION LOCKED, thus it makes more sense to buy an import.

With PS4 being region free in the true meaning of the word, it is logical to expect people to purchase an official console instead of a grey market one, if nothing because of warranties. You can be 95% certain of that.

Sure, every Chinese is comfortable with importing expensive stuff. So there is absolutely no need to officially launch entertainment products in China, right?

right, if you say so.

so the ones now being bought as imports will simply be bought as officials...

great

how does this result in higher sales pray tell?

I am trying to find where I wrote about higher sales, but I find nothing. I don't even remember talking about sales, let alone about higher sales.

This is not a thread about sales, it's not even in a Sales subforum. I was just pointing out the fact that Microsoft made a region locked console in China in the same fashion they attempted to do in the West before they were called out on it and ridiculed all the way to the 180-degree-soap opera.

I don't see why this is big news.

I've been living on China for four months now and I noticed that the biggest online store they have here (taobao) which almost everyone uses has been selling ps4s for quite some time, so anyone who wants one can get one. Also, I've seen them in several stores displayed with other consoles (xb1, xb360, ps3, etc).

I'm planning on getting one, but I don't see the point in buying an official one, when it's more expensive than the imported one. And I don't see all that many people buying them over the "grey market" ones either. Maybe we'll see a strong opening week, but other than that...

Hope I'm wrong though.

Perhaps you didnt...  but others think its a "megaton" and "(the official) PS4 and Vita will now be a success".

Not a succes in generl, just more succesfull then the x1, but looking at worldwide numbers thats no surprise

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

So much for blaming Chinese government for region locking, when it was obvious the blame was strictly on Microsoft for forcing onto Chinese what they attempted and failed in the West.
Now they either need to engage one of their trademarked 180s, or face a complete failure in China.

Good news for Chinese gamers who now have a better, cheaper console without manufacturer's restrictions placed on their enjoyment. PS4 and Vita will certainly be a success in China.

It will probably sell extremely well there with no region locking.
