Forums - Gaming - PS4 Region Free In China

I've been living on China for four months now and I noticed that the biggest online store they have here (taobao) which almost everyone uses has been selling ps4s for quite some time, so anyone who wants one can get one. Also, I've seen them in several stores displayed with other consoles (xb1, xb360, ps3, etc).

I'm planning on getting one, but I don't see the point in buying an official one, when it's more expensive than the imported one. And I don't see all that many people buying them over the "grey market" ones either. Maybe we'll see a strong opening week, but other than that...

Hope I'm wrong though.

eventuallly deals and bundles will be able to come to the official retails and that will drive sales, while now the bundles we have dont give priority to exports, so some people in countrys with no official realease of bundles will not be able to save on certain promotions, now they can and it will if only a little, increase sales on certain big releases.

So much for blaming Chinese government for region locking, when it was obvious the blame was strictly on Microsoft for forcing onto Chinese what they attempted and failed in the West.
Now they either need to engage one of their trademarked 180s, or face a complete failure in China.

Good news for Chinese gamers who now have a better, cheaper console without manufacturer's restrictions placed on their enjoyment. PS4 and Vita will certainly be a success in China.

It will probably sell extremely well there with no region locking.

Maybe not, but at least we will be able to get more acurate numbers. Since imports dont come up on offical tracking. Now that its actually better or the same to get an official consoles, it will become the primary wy of buying it and tracking will get eassy, but twith the xbox that no one will wnt the region lock and more expennsive  version they will keep importing and there will be no tracking.

Good point. Didn't think about that.

Good. I'm wondering if this could mean cheap imported ps4 from china... That would be interesting...

But they are more expensive in China than elsewhere (well, except Brazil).

I am trying to find where I wrote about higher sales, but I find nothing. I don't even remember talking about sales, let alone about higher sales.

This is not a thread about sales, it's not even in a Sales subforum. I was just pointing out the fact that Microsoft made a region locked console in China in the same fashion they attempted to do in the West before they were called out on it and ridiculed all the way to the 180-degree-soap opera.

Perhaps you didnt...  but others think its a "megaton" and "(the official) PS4 and Vita will now be a success".

and you took it up with the guy who didnt mention sales. makes sense.

Ok, I'll spell it out.

The consesus on this site has become that the PS4 and ONE are selling already in China via imports or through HK.

Now, these are imports and thus region free.  The official release of the ONE and the China previews for the PS4 have proved that these official releases are beign recieved in a very luke warm way.  The imports will remain the dominant source for consoles.

Thus, they are already freely available unlocked if desired at a lower price or with some games thrown in for the same price.

I guess the consensus must change now though to fuel Warz?

wow.

Guys, lay off Kowen please. If you disagree, state that politely and move on. If you think someone is flaming you, report and move on.
