2017 is way to early for 4k...  and they would be 10 years ahead...   and directly from beeing the weakest in the last sub hd generation to the front of the new 4k generation is a big big leap...


4k TV prices have dropped pretty fast, and people are moving to them faster than they did the HD TVs. Sure most of your players won't have 4k TVs yet, but did most of the original owners of a Xbox 360?

Can't lead from behind. Nintendo could be the most talked about system with 4k games, movie streaming, ect.

If  game cube can survived in 6th gen era, why not with Wii U.  If they releasing a new hardware on 2016 it will be a normal console with just more powerful then PS4 and Xbox One, and they will competing with all 2 giants company that already sit comfortably on the market. They can release a fusion console and tablet but the graphic will be the same with Wii U , if they want to make a tablet more powerful then a Wii U,  the tablet will be to big to carry and consume a lot of battery.

So 2017 or 2018 is a perfect time for them to strike back with casual design system (Tablet ) but powerful enough to compete with both PS brand and Xbox brand on graphic department , so they can gain more support from third party publisher.

WiiU is tracking way below GC sales. And I highly doubt that they're going to bet once again on another tablet when wiiU was such a huge commercial failure.

You are keep quoting the same thing....Nintendo is not going to abandon the wii u anytime soon .....you fail to realize hardware sales does not matter as much ...it's the software that matters and accessories(amibos,merchandise etc) in which where the most money is made not hardware ...nintendo is making a lot of money off their first party software in which almost always sell in the millions or tens of millions ....Nintendo does not put much thought in market share because their first party software sells well..... Xbox and Sony care about market share because their first party doesn't sell as well as Nintendos and they rely more on third party to bring in revenue ...so the more consoles on the market the more 3rd party sells makes them a profit....what I'm trying to basically say hardware sells does not equate to software sales /merchandise ....why do you think Sony and Xbox sell their consoles at a loss because they feel they can make it back in software and xbox live or psn subscriptions etc ...reality is the hardware sells plays a small part in revenue for Sony ,nintendo or Microsoft ..just saying ....that is why as long as nintendo software sells well they will not abandon the wii u and maximize their profits  no matter how low ther console sales are

Huuh what? Hardware AND sofware sales are at all time lows. And read again, I said that wiiU's successor will probably launch in 2017. It's their new handheld that will definetly be out in 2016.

Do you realize the wii u and. 3ds will sell at a profit from now until the end of the generation .......do you know that the attach rate to Nintendo first party games are making a lot of profit also I see you conveniently left out accessories ..like I said amibo willmake them a lot of money ....revenue is not only software and hardware sales ..that's the point you are missing .....they are profiting regardless of low console sales you are painting the wrong picture and not seeing the full picture ...just saying

A new system from Nintendo in late 2016 would actually make sense.

It wouldn't be the first time one of the 3 giants released a new console before the old one turned 5 years old. MS didn't wait this time to put the X360 in the market, they knew it was their chance to beat Sony and they did it.

Nintendo can't afford to waste more time.

Nintedo will release new 3ds/xl late 2015 in the west and then for some will release a new handheld in 2016,as a result teasing those who bought new3ds/xl in 2015...!Do some people believe what they are saying?2017 is a given, Nintendo was always respecting its consumers!
It is mentioned,that amd product will be on production in 2017...

And even then they still failed to beat Sony.

Nintendo can afford to waste more time. They don't care about the competition, their goal is not to "defeat Sony" like Microsoft's is. They'll be doing their own thing and trying to sell as much as they can by themselves, regardless of what the other ones might be doing.

MS may not have beaten Sony in the end. But they went from a 25m console to a  80m+ one.   The strategy worked well really.

Nintendo always does "their thing".   Sometimes it works for them like the Wii/DS and to a lesser extent the 3DS.    Other times like the N64,GC and WiiU it doesn't.  For some reason this strategy seems to work much better on the handheld space than in the home console market.

In the end I believe, the decision of launching new hardware before 2017 will depend on how profitable the WiiU is by late 2015.   If profits are too small or inexistant, Nintendo might consider a new console in 2016, investors will want that.

I would not be surprised if it was released in 2017... There is even a part of me that think it would be around 2016, probably something that's slightly more powerful than the PS4 (I.E. enough to run 3rd party titles that run at 30fps on the PS4 at 60 on their machine).

That would be pretty good, I may even let myself be tempted by this (I don't have a Wii U, this is the first Nintendo home console I do not own during its shelf life since the NES days... yes, I had a NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube and a Wii... some of them were not my main console, but I always had them for a while, for a few "must play" games...

Nintendo is known to have a 5-6 year gen cycle.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
