Ego Shooters are around since the late 80's (Wolfenstein 3D wasn't the first one, but it was the codifier of the Genre), that makes already 25 years. As or Assassin's Creed, it's an Action-Adventure, and these already existed on the Atari 2600, so they are around for more than 30 years.

As for your last sentence: Then how come new CoD doesn't cost 5$ piece, as it's as familiar as it gets by now and absolutely EVERYTHING gets recycled over and over here, from the ideas over the plot to even engine and textures? Creating that plasticine look for Kirby probably amounts to the same efforts of creating 3-4 CoD. Probably also the reason why there's just one Kirby per console as opposed to one CoD every. single. year.

But shooters and adventure games have improved tremendously since their early days. I would much rather play a modern game of those genres than an older one (bar nostalgia). Whereas 2D platformers haven't changed nearly as much. That's why playing early 2D platformers is pretty much just as enjoyable as modern ones. They're timeless because even early on they exploited most of the potential of the genre.

However much CoD games recycle from their predecessors they still require teams of 200-300 people working on it for 2 years or so. It's only a question of development budget. And those budgets are huge which then justifies a higher retail price.

And someone please start a new thread about this statement right here. Because this is definitely up for debate.

2D platformers having a more simple game design than shooters and adventure games is not debatable because it's a technical fact. And a simpler game design implies more restriction. That's why they eventually made 3D platformers. They could now explore a whole new side that offered many new opportunities.

I understand that they are more technically demanding simply because they render 3D enviroments, but I have to disagree that they have improved at a different rate than 2D platformers.

Lol, now hold up right there. How am I doing any of that? I love 2D games! My GOAT is a 2D game (Metroid Fusion), and I don't crap on the Wii series (Which isn't even 2D) or the 2D Mario games because of the fact that they're 2D, I crap on games like NSMB2/U because I feel that they're shallow as heck. Super Mario Galaxy was a game that had so much effort put into it that you could feel it while playing, same thing with the likes of the original NSMB and Super Mario Advance 4, but NSMB2 lacks that feeling, It even uses the same soundtrack as NSMBWii for crying out loud!

Likewise, I don't give a crap about Zelda, but I do care about that high production Mario game. You know why? Not because it's 3D, but because it has actual effort put into it.

Eh after all this time am still not good with forum stuff. I should have said that it was general rant and didn't just apply to you. I agree with parts of the stuff you said above. It is mind bogling how one of our favourite, if not the favourite one makes these bizzare decisions. I mean they didn't make a 2D Mario game for more than a decade while the previous one sold multiple of 10 millions. If this case study was brought up in let's say EA or Activision board room meeting. They would laugh so hard that they might die of exhaustion.

Anyways it was random green sky rant and not just aimed at you. Occassionally we need to rant out.

OT: Now we leave the thread to Boutros and Spermanig.

Still too expensive.

Most Nintendo games need to launch at 30$ or less in order to get a strong reception in sales.

In all things Nintendo needs to follow its portables business strategy. Only a handful of games should be sold at 40$ or more.

They just did though. $60 ⇒ $40

MSRP:

WiiU Games: $60  (Very few are $50). Only 2 i believe are $40 (at start)

3DS Games: $40 (There are definitely notable $35, but hardly $30 from nintendo when launched)

How much lower do people want this, also we haven't even seenhow big the game is/etc. I and many who were thinking of buying this game were going to spemd $60 on it or wait for it to maybe be discounted later by a few bucks.

I dont get tis at all. Nintendo drops the price to $40 for a standard game which most companies would put it at $60 normally (or some at $50) and we still get complaints :-/

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. It is a leap in the right direction. Not a step but a leap.

Having said that, I think that 40$ on 3DS is for Nintendo's most high-profile games like Zelda and Mario. A casual Kirby game should probably be priced 35$ or 30$.

I'm not complaining, I just want Nintendo to win.

"Still too expensive." The only part i really disagree with. Even Canvas Curse when it came out was wat? $30 or $35 game and it released almost 10 years ago.

That said i think your right with the 3ds price points. As for WiiU $40/$50/$60 depending on the game. I wouldn't had mind if its a $50 game tbh and DK:TF is definitely a $60 game which sold for $50.

At that price, maybe I will get it.

Nintendo isn't giving away anything free here. They price it $39.99 because you get $39.99 of content. It's a 2D platformer that recycles many ideas from its predecessor (Canvas Curse and every other 2D Kirby games really). It wouldn't have been priced as such if it were a more ambitious title.

It would've been priced at $59.99 back in 2008-10.
