Forums - Gaming Discussion - Akihiro Hino:"2015 will be a year where we usher in a hit bigger than Yokai Watch"

I'm a lazy copycat, so I took this from Gaf. What do you guys think, is he talking about the PS4 game they want to announce at E3 or is this something else?

Level-5’s Yokai Watch, which first launched as a 3DS game last July in Japan, has grown to become one of the country’s biggest mixed media franchises. But Level-5 has a new franchise in the works due out next year that will be even bigger, according to studio boss Akihiro Hino.

“It takes a lot of time to craft new installments of Yokai Watch, but on some weeks, we’re actually spending more time on our ‘new title,'” Hino told Wedge Infinity. “Around this time next year, I think we’ll have something out that’s different not just from Yokai Watch, but anything else we’ve ever done before. 2015 is going to be yet another big year of change for us.”

He added, “2015 will be a year where we usher in a hit bigger than Yokai Watch.”

Hino says that he wants it to resemble the things he enjoyed as a kid, but more modernized. Of course, like Yokai Watch, it will consist of not only games, but anime and manga, too.

nd speaking of Yokai Watch, at the launch of the franchise’s first anime movie Yokai Watch the Movie: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan!, Hino confirmed the anime is headed westward. While some of the character names are changing for the western release, popular names like Whisper and Jibanyan will remain the same. Confirmed regions for the anime include the United States, Europe, and various other areas.

Outside of Yokai Watch and the new franchise, Hino also talks a bit about Level-5 as a studio, saying he has no plans of moving the company to Tokyo, as he wants to foster its current location of Fukuoka to be the ‘Hollywood’ of games.

I doubt that very much, but I wonder if this means the long rumored SCEJ answer to Final Fantasy and Level-5's PS4 project are one in the same.

Please be this

If he thinks it will be just as big as Yokai Watch, then it will probably be on the 3DS...

Da hell? Thats Super Extremely Bold right there for a new ip. I mean yeah YW hit Gold, and its currently top dog in japan but to claim a 2nd Major Hit?

Must be pretty damn confident!!! Has to be a 3ds+mobile game to be bigger as well...

I'm doubtful he's talking about the PS4 game as well, but hey who knows, just imagine a new Level 5 RPG that actually does become at least similar to Yokai Watch in success and Final Fantasy XV both releasing next holiday season on PS4 in Japan, the system would sell like crazy.

I have my doubts.

I highly doubt they would launch the ps4 game a few months after the E3 reveal.

Yeah at first i thought it was the ps4 game, but the claim to be bigger than YW makes that look unlikely. Even as a 3ds game, thats extremely bold. YW2 shipped/sold/digital over 3.5mil (not the last one to come out). Thats currently the 4th highest game of the gen and is kinda close to the top 3.

That said, be it a 3ds/ps4 (or unexpected WiiU/Vita) game, its going to be very interesting with this level of confidence. Its like Nintendo stating they are making a new ip thats going to rival SSB/MK..... BOLD

Yeah.. well.. this would pretty much revitalize the console business in Japan. It'd at least give the PS4 a boost big enough to justify making a mainline Dragon Quest game, perhaps exclusively, for it in 2016/2017. And given Sony's strong relations with Capcom as of late, a co-developed/Sony financed Monster Hunter game wouldn't be out of the question either. It's nice to dream :D

Not sure they would revitalize the console market over there, but it would be a great start
