Its a little different if the person actually owned the console and has complaints about it. None of the hardware is perfect, like the PS3's inability to play some games in 1080i which has annoyed me in the past.
It sounds like he had it for a good bit of time too before he gave up on it.

never, but a friend of mine has a ps3 which can't read disc's anymore

I have disc to get scratched by the PS,Ps2, And even PC before. The faster you spend the disc the greater the chance of scratching the disc. It only takes a small piece of dust on the tray to scratch it.
Still every time I had a disc stop working because of a scratch the Disc-Doctor repaired it.

actually this thread wasnt at all intended to troll on the xbox 360. i think the 360 is a great system with great online play, but i think ps3 is better and will continue to gain momentum this year. and yes call me a sony boy for saying that.
i posted this thread because i wanted to see how many peopel got this problem, or if it was just me. and it looks like quite a few had this problem.
and ps3 has gotten enough criticism and bashing over the least year, like the lack of "good games" its "expensive" price, and its habit to collect dust, so dont complain when i come into the ms forum and ask TRUE GAMERS if they had this problem.
last time i checked your profile, it said you were a newbie. dont be a hypocrite. do you even own a 360?

No I own a Nintendo Wii but play friends XBox 360.
Haven't had this problem at all. As long as you keep your DVDs clean you won't have a problem.

In the test I linked above, they used brand new games for all three test days (5 hours of gaming per test) placed carefully placed into the 360s and investigated by professionals (the whole test was taped from start to finish). All three tests showed disc scratches, so you cannot promise this to people.
Never had any scratches on discs...but I have friends that complain about this problem...
Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.
