Forums - Sales - For the people shocked at Wii U NPD results

I just want the Wii U selling good, enough to satisfy Nintendo.

Nintendo wasn't happy with GameCube sales, I think Iwata said afterwards they're not in the business of selling only 20 million consoles or something. So they're probably not too happy with the Wii U right now, but it's been on this trajectory for a while now so it's hard to say it's a huge shocker.

I was expecting a bigger boost though than just 10% year over year. That's really poor growth.

I'm more so looking at worldwide numbers and its way above last years, so win so far. that could change though with the december numbers and it could fall behind 2013's numbers. But as of right now its way ahead of them

It seems as tho Wii U is up by about 500k worldwide thru November or 25% YoY. Vgchartz shows that Wii U sold close to 2 million from Jan-Nov last year. Wii U is at 2.65m according to this site but we know that it's almost 150k over tracked in Nov for USA so 2.5m assuming the rest of the world is accurate.

Also I guess we can sort of put the Smash Brothers is a bigger system seller than Mario Kart thing to bed too. Obviously did not play out that way.

yeah its still up over 2013 numbers. Wii U moved 1.1m in December last year worldwide, so we'll see if they can top it this year, its possible

It's hard to say. Smash released at the same time 3D World did the year prior and both series have historically sold similar amounts. On the other hand, Mario Kart released at a time when Wii U was suffering a drought in 2013 making its boost seem more significant than it really was.

Ya Dec will most likely be up YoY,  1.25-1.5 million worldwide putting it at 3.75-4 million for the entire year

It's a good point, actually. Nice observation!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I wouldn't say that I'm shocked, just a bit disappointed.. :/

Does this take into account the 140k overtracking in US for Nov?

Well, considering their goal for their first fiscal year was 9 millions and we are 2 years in and it hasn't gotten there yet, I really doubt that they are too happy about it. But who knows? it doesn't look like they are even trying to sale (no price cuts, no Smash bundles, no good BF deals compared to the competition, etc), so maybe they do are happy with those sales.
