Sega should go to Square Enix and ask how to port the old Sonic games to the PS4 while also making a big deal out of it.

Hey, I would buy an HD port of their Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic games in a heartbeat, and not that turd that is Sonic Boom.

In my opinion the alliance has been a waste of time and money, but I don't know who is more to blame here, if Sega for being unable to make a good Sonic game anymore or Nintendo for not being over what Sega was doing with their money.

Please excuse my bad English.

I'd say it was a failure, just like I said it would be when the deal was initially announced. Those 3 Wii U exclusives combined sold less than just the PS3 version of Sonic Generations, and I think they also sold less than the 360 version of Sonic Generations as well. Even with the 3DS versions of Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom combined with the Wii U versions I think the PS3 version of Sonic Gnerations still comes out on top. Now of course quality-wise Boom and Lost World were inferior to Generations, but you get my point. People told Sega it was a bad idea, comments sections on articles about the deal were filled with highly upvoted comments saying that those games would sell poorly because Sonic has a bigger fanbase on Xbox and Playstation than it does on Nintendo platforms. The Sonic games on Wii only sold well because of the casuals, and the casuals never migrated to Wii U, they're mostly on iOS and Android now.

What?

Sonic has been more closely associated with Nintendo platforms than the others for a long time. You'll have to cite more than Generations to give any definitive sense that it's not the case.

My take is that the alliance was definitely a failure. Whatever Nintendo paid for the game exclusivity did not pan out for additional sales on both the 3DS and the Wii U nor did it not spell the end of bad Sonic games. We do not know what resources were utilized by SEGA but the games appeared to be rushed at best and overall underwhelming. The game were exclusive so there was really no pressure to be overtly technical (1080p etc), was an opportunity for Sonic to shine but fell flat on its face.

It's hard to see what these last twoish year will bring to the future of Sonic, hopefully SEGA continues to work at it and it comes to a multitude of consoles.

What direction they go next depends on how well the cartoon does, i think.

Their goal was to make the crappiest sonic games possible, I'm sure of it. Sonic has so much potential and it's like Sega couldn't wait to kill him.

Lost World was fun at times though! It was better than '06, Shadow and other awful Sonic games!

I don't know if it was part of the agreement, but it's obvious that Nintendo had no creative control whatsoever. The agreement probably just brought a few exclusives to Wii U as long as Nintendo would take care of the publishing and promoting in some territories. That being said, not letting Nintendo have creative control was a huge mistake. Not only do I think Nintendo's influence would have resulted in better games, but I bet anyone that EAD Tokyo, if given the chance could probably make the best Sonic game we've seen in the last 20 years.

Failure...

At this point, just give Nintendo the ability to create a Sonic game or let the franchise die.

Lost world was okay I guess, but not what Sonic should be. I think sticking with a solid gameplay style, only 2D or only 3D would help the progression of the series. Yeah, I guess I was a bit harsh there by saying the worst, sonic 06' and Shadow were terrible.

I honestly think that sticking with 2D-only is a much better idea at this point!

Nintendo took away the Mario franchise's biggest trait (jumping) and made a great spinoff game out of it.
Maybe Sega needs to take away Sonic's speed. :D
