The benefits of good voice acting far outway the mediocrity, yet safeness, of not having it. VA is not unproven for Nintendo, and even if it was, that wouldn't somehow change that Zelda U needs voice acting. If they never succeeded at VA a day in their history, they'd need to start now, and they'd need to do it with Zelda U. Bad voice acting shouldn't even be a factor in Nintendo's minds. If they do good voice acting, the game will not only be better, but modern, because of it. If they don't do voice acting, the game will be worse, and antiquated, because of it. Lack of voice acting has done the series harm. I've already stated how. There is no Zelda model. There is no voice acting model. There's a video game model. If characters are moving and acting on a screen like they're speaking, then they should be speaking with voices. There's nothing to prove. Good voice acting makes video games better then no voice acting. Zelda is a video game. Zelda needs voice acting, or it will be a lesser game without it. |
But thats the thing though... We won't know if the VA will be good or bad until it gets released which is a risk if the VA they chose isn't what people had in mind. I remember watching an anime called Soul Eater where I read the first volumes of the Manga first before watching the anime and the range of voice I imagined for the main character was wayyyy off than what I thought it would be. Sure, you could say that whole, well, this is their voice for the first time so you shouldnt have any expectations before hand but the fact of the matter is that from the grunts and etc that they do, most people have an idea of the range of what the voice should be and if Nintendo doesn't choose within that range, it will make the fans unhappy.
And I really don't think its mandatory, specially considering how bad the wiiU is selling nor do they need to start when it could mean low sales for the game and the system. And sure, if they do good voice acting, it might make the game better but is their good, good enough for fans would be the other question. And not to mention, if they somehow end up making it bad, it will certainly make the game significantly worse than without VA cause fans of Zelda are used to it not having VA cause it has been the series convention since forever... Going back to say GTA, if GTA V didn't have any VA, GTA fans would be mad cause that has also been a series convention and it is something that have been used to for generations of GTA
And there are still a number of video games that don't have VA and I highly doubt that not having VA is a make or break sitution for most Zelda fans out there provided the rest of the game is excellent
