Not signing.

She may not be an artist, but an art critic doesn't have to be. Rallying to silence her is simply put, a juvenile, knee-jerk reaction that, in a broader context, only serves to silence a feminist perspective. In this case, trying to shoot the messenger does more to legitimize her concerns about the industry as it demonstratively showcases how the Male Defense Force responds to the mere possibility of a fairer portrayal of the genders in this artistic medium.

Get over it. Just as there is sexism and misogyny in every other entertainment medium in spite of feminist movements, these things that you find dear to the realm of video games will survive and thrive even if Anita's influence magnifies a hundred fold. Just sit back, see what happens, and critique the final product. That's what secured her role as a consultant anyhow. The development team clearly listens to its critics, so Mirror's Edge 2 may be a learning experience for gamer and developer alike.

There's no sense in becoming hysterical at this stage.

Wanted to her away from developing a game she's unqualified to do =/= silencing her. Her soapbox is unaffected by this PR stunt.

Do you know her qualifications?

She's a media critic/blogger. You can watch videos of her where she says that played games while younger but doesn't consider herself a gamer in any way. Her tune changed a bit once she was able to profit from it, but she has no experience in game creation. If that's all you need to be a consultant, I chose the wrong profession.

As a critic, she is qualified to be a consultant.  One doesn't have to be an artist to be an effective art critic.  Did you even read my post?

I disagree, largely because I don't think you can really consider her video games series much of a critique. What I was replying to was the silencing comment, which you sidestepped completely.

Edit: Also, if you would like to go that route, you need credibility in order for your critiques to mean anything. She has no credibility with this area.

Considering that you do not know her exact role with EA, you can't really comment on if she is qualified for the position or not.  For whatever reason and motivation behind it, EA saw enough of a reason to hire her.

like Mirrors edge wasnt female friendly enough, you spend the whole time saving your sisters and kicking various men in the nuts

You only need an opinion, the ability to articulate it, and an audience to have credibility as a critic.  If she lacked any one of the three, she wouldn't have even been noticed.  Evidently, she has all the credibility she needs in this area for the people qualified to manage a video game development studio to hire her for her opinions.

Very true.  Everyone up in arms about this seems to have no idea what she's actually doing or in what capacity, yet they think she doesn't meet their standards to do it.

It's nothing but a knee jerk reaction to something that the majority of gamers don't even understand.  You hear the same shit spouted about "pushing her agenda" and "ruining gaming", or whatever that means.  You know what ruins gaming?  These god damn petitions and complaints. These self entitled little children who find something that doesn't live up to their idea of something and demand that it be fixed immediately.  Cheapens everything.

Why...... Just why?! This petition is just giving her even more attention.. -__-

i like how trying to stop feminists from censoring video games is now being called censorship lol

feminists recently got gta banned from being sold in Australia at target and kmart citing violence against women as a reason; completely ignoring of course that you primarily kill men in the game because men do not matter and are not equal after all

i was watching some mortal kombat yesterday and i basically watched scorpian rip casey cage in half with a fatality

and as i was watching that it occurred to me that if they shut down gta for those reasons what about games like mortal kombat?

this is what a lot of you do not understand and this obviously does not only apply to games... it is a cancer slowly eating away at the freedom of expression, freedom of speech etc etc etc... well actually freedom in general

as we walk down the path of socialism

edit: i'd like to clarify though that i don't support petitions in general but to try to shut down criticism of feminism is lol worthy

I say let her work on the game. People vote with their wallets. For as long as no one buys Mirror's Edge, then her future participation in gaming development  will be nipped in the bud. If people buy it, then there's really nothing a single petition can do is there?
