It has been almost 5 years since the last entry. I don't get it, why is Nintendo not prioritizing one of their most beloved franchises? Does it not sell well enough? Was Other M so horrible that it killed the series for good? Lack of resources?

Come on big N. Give us Metroid and all complaints about WiiU will be forgiven.

Compared to the other entries they have released, no, it doesn't sell as well. I don't think it's abandoned, they are just putting other stuff, bigger stuff, before it.

They've released many games on Wii U that won't reach the sales of Metroid Prime 1 or 3.

They just don't want to pull another Other M this time around.

Specifically, Nintendo has stated they have two styles of Metroid - Prime style and traditional 2D - and they want to take care of both and hope to share their work on it soon. That's essentially confirmed to be working on both. Also confirms Nintendo is pretending Other M never happened, which sounds like a good strategy to me :P

Edit:  The specific quote is, ‘So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them’.

Its basically confirmed him telling this and saying them

They won't pull an Other M if Retro develops it!

Metroid games don't sell like Mario/Zelda. Once the install base is over 12m or so, a pair of Metroid games will have a chance of doing well. Still, I really need to see something soon.

Wait for December direct or e3? Nintendo did say they are planning to work on a 3d and 2d Metroid 6 months ago so... they definitely havnt given up on it...

I've been waiting for the past 3 E3s and god knows how many Nintendo Directs. How long am I supposed to keep waiting?

Little while longer as Metroid for Wii U and 3DS is in the planning stages as of E3. So if in devlopment it's super super super early to the point just be glad if we geta teaser by E3

I'm hoping Metroid on 3DS for late 2015, Metroid Prime IV (maybe not called that, but certainly a similar style of play to Prime) on Wii U in 2016. Both announced next E3.

clickbait too much? 4 years =/= 5 years?

Metroid isn't one of Nintendo's best selling franchises so I don't think they're rushing to get another game out. That being said, it isn't uncommon to go for several years without a Metroid game except during the 2000's, Metroid fans were spoiled during that time.

Generally smaller games in comparison. As in non main franchises. Big franchises like DK:TF, Mario, MK, Smash are all generally better sellers than Metroid. To take direct sales comparisons in this situation wouldn't make sense since the install base is much smaller on the Wii U. DK on Wii and 3DS was much bigger than it ended up being on the Wii U, so in that situation it was likely just a miscalculation. The rest mostly speak for themselves.

Just give it some time. There has been rumors about Metroid being in development.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
