Forums - Gaming - Is internet gaming community killing Dev morale?

You must really have to love what you do to be a game developer. Spending 13 to 14 hours a day working on a game barely seeing your friends and family has to be tough. A lot of hard work goes into making these games.  So you can only imagine the frustration and demoralizing feeling a dev gets when they look on the Internet to see thousands of people shitting all over their hard work.

Look I understand that their line of work is entertainment so theres bound to be people who dont like your product. But theres a line between constructive criticism and downright hate. Look at games like Titanfall, Destiny or even Watch Dogs. Yes those games were not as good as they could of been but they weren't absolute garbage. Imagine that youre a game dev and you look at feedback from your game only see "This is the worst shit ever they should die for making this" or "Fuck this game and fuck the developers for making this horseshit"

I know if I was seeing that constantly 24/7 and not constructive feedback id quit too.

Do you think the internet gaming community is killing the morale of game designers?

Publishers giving tight budgets and schedules, is killing dev morale.

And stupid devs that accept this.

Not everyone is as dumb as the average joe consumer and if devs deliver crap then they just deserve to hear that their produt is crap. You are part of a company dont go "yes boss whatever you say boss. Can I klss your a$$? thank you"  Go  "boss this is a bad Idea"

People can definitely be crappy and self-entitled. But I think for the most part if someone's got a good game, they're going to get good with the bad. And if they're literally only getting the bad, then they probably should be a game developer.

It's easy to pick out all the douches, but there really is an amazing and empowering community of gamers on the internet. Some people are getting so much positive feedback on how their work is shaping up that by the time their game comes out they've already got a huge amount of fans and definite sales.

I dont think they give a shit what we talk about on the forums. so my answer is no.

the industry is killing the industry..they should all abandone smartphones and such and make pc,console games only like it should be its only natural.

Hopefully, most developers don't pay attention to it or they understand that they need to filter out the idiots. Of course, we know that some lack that level of maturity, like the guy with Platinum or the one who made Fez.

Other than sheer ignorance, I'm not sure why people feel the need to trash things they don't like with absolute statements that only make them appear childish.

its the publishers fault.  dont pay millions for ads and praise the game as 2nd coming of jebus.

and if you cant understand that we dont want micropayment in singleplayer fullprice games, than you better quit making games and start making something different.

i unerstand the destiny and watchdogs hate, but why people hate titanfall? its a good game, a bit slow, but much better than cod or bf, and nobody realy cares for the single layer in those games, because they are just shity written scriptfests..

i think we got all in tf that they promissed, in WD and destiny, not so much.

You completely missed the point of the thread...

bad developers get massiv critic, good are loved, thats how the world goes.    every body is loving ND, Platinum Games, etc. why? BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING GOOD WORK.  and 14 h work a day? unionize or stop crying...

Do you feel bad for the farmer when the apple you bought was rotten on the backside?

I'm sorry. Theres no sympathy. The consumer isnt a saint that gives the miracle of money upon thee.
If someone is to blame for a bad job its themselves and/or the publishers. Go hate on them.

Also, those people are well paid. They are far from victims. If they make a boring game, they should be called out for it. Theres more to entertainment than pretty graphics.
