I'm with you, OP. I've mentioned this before. I'm absolutely disgusted by some people's comments. With a very few exceptions, I don't think any game is "crap" or "shit". There are so many better ways to describe your experience with a game.
I've played games like Proteus that I didn't enjoy at all. I don't get their point and I consider them not my cup of tea. I've played games with forgettable story, with mediocre gameplay (e.g. that 300 game on psp), but I wouldn't call them crap.
A game like Ryse has incredible graphics, from what I've heard a good story, an interesting setting, and good voice acting. Even if you don't like the gameplay, it doesn't mean the game is crap. It means that's not the kind of gameplay that you enjoy in a videogame. You have every right not to like it, but I believe a mature, level-headed person will say "not interested. I don't find QTE's fun". A less mature will say "gameplay is shiit".
As mentioned in another thread about a year ago, I've noticed that the internet is full of people who have incredible hate inside of them. They hate Sony for being Sony. They haye MS for being MS and Ninty for not doing what they want with their IP's. Forums are plagued with people who either troll these companies or stealth troll them. "Oh, Drive Club developers still haven't fixed the problems? That's too bad and surprising... How did Sony let that happen?" There are members who have over 10000 posts and have yet to say one negative thing about their favourite company and a single positive thing about that company's main competitor.
The way I see it, it's like bullies who are abused at home and then bully their classmates. Now weak people who have very sad lives and hate everyone who have better lives (girlfriends, better jobs, better friends, live in better neighbourhoods, etc) and they let out all their frustrations online (I know it's a generalization; I'm giving an example). Why? Because there are no repercussions.
The same thing that happens with video games happens with celebrities who gets insane hated from people for not acting like some people want them to or because they have better lives than them. I once read someone twitting about Britney Spears and saying "I don't care about Britney. Let me know when her sons have cancer or something". How fucked up is that? People also literally threaten the lives of celebrities publicly and get away with it.
And terrible parenting doesn't help either. Teenagers and people in their 20's expect perfection and their every demand to be met. Look at the Jimmy kimmel videos of children/teens acting all entitled when their parents eat their candy. I never even considered speaking to my parents like that.
And just because developers get paid well, doesn't mean they deserve the abuse. It's like being a lecturer and getting paid well and because of that your students can call your an ugly piece of garbage. Doesn't (or shouldn't) work like that as far as I'm concerned.
Lastly, when you are a part of a project, there is only so much you can do. Imagine having a group presentation with some classmates, you work your ass off and do well and one person brings the team down and then the teacher shits on the entire team and you get a terrible score. The person who makes the artwork in Assassins' Creed X is not at fault for the glitches of the game. Same for the voice actors. But what do they hear about the game they helped make? "Assassin's Creed x was shit".
