Forums - Sales - Selling in Europe is better than in US ?

The extra cost goes to localization, taxes etc as the other guys said. It is not some conspiracy to make games more expensive ouside of the US.

No, more taxes is mostly the reason

But thats just half the story.

Eg.   PS4 $400 (=312€) vs 400€

312€ is the US price without tax now lets add 20% on top of that (no state in the US has 10% as far as I know all either have none 4, x 6,x and the max is like 9.45%)

So 312 * 1,2 = 374.40€

374.40€ is stlll not 400€ even tho we just added 10% extra tax on top that does not even exist in the US.

What a weird calculation. Taxes aren't going into the pockets of the companies. Try this one.

PS4 is 321€ in US without taxes.

PS4 324€ in Germany without taxes.

And there are countries with an even higher VAT so it pretty much adds up. Add to that all the legal fees, added budget for localisation and other complicated stuff and it's actually a lot worse for a company to release in Europe.

400  / 119 * 100 = 336 not 324€

You replied to the old "version" of my comment where I made a type 312/321.

This is now with a 1€ =
$1,2453 exchange rate.  Now go back a few years and use the 1€ = $ 1,49 rate instead.

Yep, calculated from the wrong end. Now you only have to read the rest of what I wrote and others have mentioned to realize that it's not cheaper for companies to release a europe wide video game.

A few years back all video games cost 60€ in Europe. The 70€ price point has only been around since the start of Gen8.

It's just like in Brazil, the games costs $100, but we have 72% in taxes.

It's weird that a Brazilian website like Nuuvem sells games much cheaper than US and EU websites. Do you know why that is?

The One and Only

VizionEck.com

The best way to save money is be in the EU and buy your games from the US PSN store with no tax charge. I save 30$ per game.

Selling in Europe is a better general indicator of quality. They're smarter consumers, on average.

That's why it is better, really. It's an indicator that the product is good. That higher price tag covers taxes (which are IN the price in Europe), import fees, European operating costs (more languages, more countries), etc. I doubt the games are much more profitable per sale, if at all.

Lol, sniper games say different, also fifa games over pes.

No because in Europe are a lot of more languages to translate than in the US.

FIFA sells better than PES in the US as well. It's just a bigger IP with far more marketing and name recognition. lol PES does better in Japan, because it is Japanese and is better aimed at that football crowd.

Mind, with PES getting better now, maybe they'll start to compete again in Europe and the US.

"Sniper games" doesn't mean a lot to me, as that's a matter of cultural taste. I myself don't find them interesting.

Brazilian taxes rules are inconsistents, Phisical Discs have taxes, but digital ones, no.

To be fair, Pro Evo is worthless to a lot of people because it hasn't got the licenses which is a big pull of FIFA.

As for the price difference. As well as taxes etc. Distribution is much more complex in Europe. Then they also need to price in a buffer against currency fluctuations. Yes, $60 might be less then e60 today, but if the Euro went into meltdown, 60 euros could suddenly only become worth $30 (extreme example) but these are the kinds of things that are factored in when determing the retail of things.
