Forums - Gaming - 2D Platformer vs 3D Platformer

3D Platformers for me, just because I played/enjoyed them more than the 2D ones.

3D platformers thanks to the masterpiece that is Mario Galaxy 1!

Stop ripping of my thread! How the heck would a platformer have combat mechanics anyway?

Ratchet and clank has combat mechanics.... So does Sly..... Heck, so does Mario.

OT: 3D all the way. My favourite genre.

Pretty hard one. My fave platformer is 2D, SMB3. so I'll go with that. Where does 2.5D go in this category?

3D platformers are significantly harder to do well.
As a result, there are many 3D platformers that are done horribly or even mediocrely compared to 2D platformers which are simpler and usually all good. But when a 3D platformer is good, it far exceeds that of 2D.
I like both, but a good 3D platformer is better than a good 2D platformer.

Normally 2.5D should be a separate category, but in this case I think 2.5D games go in the 2D category!
