I do love sci-fi games like Mass Effect, and obviously the Star Wars movies are timeless classics. I'd have to say that I prefer fantasy games a lot more than sci-fi ones though. Movies? I'd have to go with sci-fi, mostly because there hasn't actually been all that many good fantasy movies.

Unfortunately, you could say the same about sci-fi movies. We're lacking of those nowadays :(

Yeah, that's true :/ Although every now and then a good sci-fi movie comes along. And I guess there are some really good sci-fi movies from the past like Alien, Star Wars, Star Trek 2-4, Teminator 2 etc. Whereas I think fantasy movies only got good around about the time Lord Of The Rings came out.

There were many good fantasy movies in the 80's, Not counting animation: Indiana Jones series, The princess bride, Willow, Legend, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Labyrinth, The dark crystal, The neverending story, Ladyhawke, Conan, Flesh+Blood.

It did get better in the 2000's, LotR stands out, Big fish, The fall, Pan's labyrinth, but what do we have currently? Pure fantasy movies are very rare nowadays. I guess 10 years of Harry Potter has sucked the imagination out of the fantasy movie industry. It's all superhero movies now.

Sci-fi is doing better atm. Many more sci-fi movies to enjoy than fantasy.

I wouldn't really call Indiana Jones fantasy, but I could be wrong. I wasn't really a fan of any of thse other 80s movies tbh. I think Sci-Fi had a much better run.

Definitely don't have a favorite when it comes to scifi or fantasy. I enjoy them both, but in the book category I'd say my more cherished series are fantasy over scifi, though that's mainly because I started out reading fantasy very young (the hobbit/lotr ~6yrs old). However, I ended up reading some absolutely stellar SciFi later on (This alien shore, otherland series, Hyperion cantos). Yeah, I know the question was about video games and movies, but I think books are just as important in my life :)

Sci-fi has always been better imo, I just think pure fantasy is worse off nowdays. Sci-Fi is not as strong either, but is doing much better than fantasy.

And yes the 80's had a better sci-fi run with Star wars, Aliens, Brazil, Wrath of khan, Voyage home, Terminator, Back to the future, Dune, Tron, The Abyss, Lathe of heaven. And the 90's only got better.

Yea, fantasy has been weak in TV/movies nowadays. The only thing doing it justice now is Supernatural which is pretty nice.
