They know where the public for "one year old remakes" is.

This isnt a remake, its a port

Good job not buying this one yet, badgenome!

Thanks, badgenome!

It is a business decision to attract more customers, it has nothing to do with "limiting creativity". They are investing into fresh experiences, as said, thier new IP, Bloodborne, is coming before this.

Look at all the next gen rehashes recently; The Last of Us Remastered, Wind Waker, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, the list goes on. That's a lot of resources that would be better spent on actual new experiences.

I mean, if it floats your boat, more power to you, but I'd rather something fresh.

Did you also complain at the beginning of the last gen when the consoles got ports and slight up res games like King Kong, Burnout Revenge, Tomb Raider Legend, Gun, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Tony Hawks, Full Auto, Fight Night 3, Far Cry Instincts, Just Cause, Splinter Cell Double Agent?  That first year or so full of old gen games mixed in with a few new ones didn't do them consoles any harm did it?

Stop moaning about it and just don't buy them if you dont want to.  They obviously aren't catered to your tastes.  But as someone (like me) who had a 360 last gen I didnt get to play Last Of Us and I didn't play DS2 either as I had already moved over to the new consoles so whats the problem?

If developers remaster some of these games and it puts a bit of easy money in their pocket, then as a consumer you would like to think this extra revenue goes into making new IP's that little bit better because they have healthier resources to draw from.

I would have if I'd even been involved in gaming then, but the 6th gen was so disappointing I took a break from the medium from 2004-2009 save for 4th/5th gen games.

Considering that Bloodborne, the most anticipated game on Ps4 is coming before this version of DS2, it is safe to say you have no idea what you are talking about.

Considering that this is yet another case of the gaming industry feeding us reheated leftovers instead of investing that effort into fresh experiences, yes I do know what I am talking about.

Do you have a problem with GOTY editions?

Well thats totally fair enough.  But my point is, we went through the exact same thing last gen.  For perhaps an 18 month period.  Its quick, relatively easy and low cost for the developer to do this.  And as a gamer, its filler until the better stuff comes along.  Its not ideal, no one is saying it is.  But its not a new practice that has only been conceived in the last year.

The problem we have now is that because consoles are getting more complicated, then development times get longer.  Your looking at minimum 18-24 months now for a game to go from conception to release.  Any less and you end up with bug ridden garbage like Unity etc.   So in reality what should developers do, have a release window that literally has nothing in it, or spend a bit of time and money  having a small team remastering titles that will still sell on the new consoles.

Or to put it another way, this first year of console gaming for me personally would be alot worse if we didnt have Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Metro Redux, Last Of Us, Diablo 3, Sleeping Dogs and GTAV to play on.

EDIT:

And as a side note, to suggest the 6th generation of consoles was disappointing makes me think the problem doesn't lie with the games, it might be you?  Maybe you are just bored of gaming full stop?  I could literally list over a 100 games on that generation that are considered classics.  I'm not sure what else in that case a developer can do to satisfy you?

I'll double dip, traded it in after completing it as I felt this was coming.
An improved version looking like the original reveal with DLC included, sold. It was the best game this year after all, and it deserves a spot in my collection.

But even outsourcing studios are very often brought in to assist with production of massive titles, we've seen this with games like COD. The industry as a whole has a finite amount of manpower and resources. I'd just rather they focussed on actual new experiences.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Never saw you complaining about Bayonetta for Wii U.

I knew it'd be ported to the next gen consoles so I didn't purchase it.

No thanks. After platinuming DS I will never put myself through that torture again.
