Buying Capcom would make a lot sense, exclusivity of their titles for both consoles and handhelds could move millions of extra hardware units, justifying the cost. But Capcom has to want to be bought, so that's an issue.

In a more feasible realm, I said earlier they should buy Gunfire and Crytek. Gunfire just because they make fantastic games but need a publisher. HUNT looked outstanding, and would make a great launch title for Nintendo's next system.

But Nintendo should also buy Crytek (who own the HUNT IP), for a number of reasons.

-1st, their engine is great and could be used to lure 3rd parties. Free CryEngine for anyone making a Nintendo exclusive. 50% for anyone who uses the engine and brings their multiplat to Nintendo. That kind of synergy could both push the engine and the hardware. The engine could also be made available to all Nintendo studios to help development, and Crytek could make tools designed to make bringing CryEngine games to Nintendo especially easy.
-2nd, Crytek makes great graphics but mediocre games. I would focus them on making their game engine, but also as a support studio. Pair them with Retro to speed up production and design breath-taking levels while Retro works on the gameplay (imagine a Turok reboot with Crysis-like jungles, or Samus exploring ruins with the detail level of Ryse). Hire some talent from Bungie and/or Activision to start a new shooter game studio in the US, but partner them with Crytek for graphic design. They could be a real asset to improve the production of all of Nintendo's other studios, especially western ones. A western hub studio, providing production support to smaller studios with great gameplay ideas.
-3rd, Crytek Kiev could be re-focused and turn the uninteresting Warface franchise into a true military or sci-fi shooter franchise for Nintendo.

Crytek and Gunfire are both desperate for cash. Pick them up, expand Retro and make a real team out of NST and Nintendo could have Retro1&2, Gunfire, NST, Next Level and Crytek Kiev all making high end titles. With Crytek Frankfurt providing engine and graphic design support Nintendo could have 2 AAA western titles a year with breathtaking visuals on 3-year development cycles. They could also maybe lure a few more devs as well with the free CryEngine, especially some talented new indie or two that could potentially grow into a new partner.

Studios like Capcom are well past their prime and don't have much to offer. Nintendo already has exclusivity over Monster Hunter, the only other two franchises that Capcom really has of note (sales wise) is Resident Evil and Street Fighter, and both of those are tired and old IP. Nintendo had RE exclusivity during the GameCube too and it didn't do sh*t for sales, the main fanbase of that IP is on the Playstation and they're not going to buy a Nintendo system just for Resident Evil.

Nintendo will never rubber stamp a massive expansion of their dev studios either. They don't want to be much bigger than what they are now.

I'd say it would be smarter to add a 150-ish person team in the US and one more 150 person team in Europe. Also continue to work with Platinum Games and Next Level Games.

I'd also buy the Bayonetta IP outright. Yes it's never going to be a huge seller, but it's something they can at least build with.

I'd buy rights to the Bond IP too or at least for some console exclusives (maybe a clause that Bond FPS can only be on Nintendo systems).

The Bond IP would be really smart.

Would you prefer Nintendo to buy a company outright, be bought by one outright, or merge with someone?

Personally, I want Nintendo to buy out Sega (Atlus included), because across the various franchises between those three, they've pretty much got everything covered, and Nintendo could use a "mature" brand ("Sega" could fill that role nicely), thereby allowing Nintendo to keep their "Family-friendly" image more easily. I also want to see them buy some western studios of various types, including both engine-makers and quality game-makers. Oh, and while it's not strictly an "acquisition", I also want Nintendo to gather an elite group of big-name developers (like Warren Spector, Jade Raymond, Yuji Naka, Tomonobu Itagaki, Cliff Bleszinski, Koji Igarashi, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Hideki Kamiya - notice that all of these are either currently not employed in the video game industry, or have their own indie studio, yet they all made their names with a publisher).

But in thinking about mergers, I had a really interesting idea. What if Nintendo were to merge with a dedicated hardware company (as in, something along the lines of Nvidia, AMD, IBM, HP, etc)? With Nintendo's gaming dedication paired with hardware capability from one of those sorts of companies, Nintendo could potentially find themselves in a position of real power. And what's more, Nintendo could potentially have true "gaming PC" systems that function simultaneously as regular PCs and as Nintendo gaming hardware, potentially allowing them to have something more akin to Steam as part of their system while ensuring that their own hardware outperforms other such PCs for their games.

Know what would be good? if you actually read the actual statment before talking about things that nintendo never said. Put simple: nintendo never said anything about buying or merging with another gaming companies. They were talking about companies to help them in the Qol Bussiness, that's all.

You don't have to be rude or sarcastic in your tone. It's not like this discussion is causing you (or shouldn't be at least) a massive headache. That being said, do you have any proof that they were specifically talking about QoL when they mentioned the merger idea? I read that stuff when it was brand new and I don't recall there being a mention of QoL. Is that an implication you derived from said article?

Also, even if that is all that statement was meant to imply at the time doesn't mean that is all Nintendo would ever consider.

How in hell could Sony ever afford Nintendo? Sony can't even afford its own office buildings, they couldn't afford over 17 billion USD.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I would like to see them buy Capcom or Sega or merge with them or whatever...

No, this is a implication that I got from the actual source of the article:

Read question 6 and the answer.

I think its pretty clear what iwata said and what he didn't.

Sorry if i was too harsh, but when people spread misinformation about nintendo, it really get on my nerves because them they start to use flawed arguments that make nintendo fans look stupid, and this is not really a good thing.

Besides, acquiring a big studio don't seems like something nintendo would do. Myamoto said some times that hiring more people is not the answer to producing more games, that people need to instruced and educated on how to make nintendo games, and this can't be done with big hirings.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

There is nothing anywhere that is really saying Nintendo is looking to acquire or merge with anything gaming or non-gaming specifically.  The only thing they said specifically was that they were buying back stock in preperation for mergers or acquisitions.  This could be anything, and we are free to speculate on what it may be.  Gaming is more fun.

Obviously most people will vote for Nintendo buying Capcom.
