I can see certain benefits with Nintendo buying Sega or Capcom, but I can also see some benefits of a merger with a spin offed Playstation branch.

Sega is a tempting proposition since Nintendo would be landing Sonic, and would then be able to make an actually good game with him again. But what else is there for Nintendo to gain from buying Sega? Maybe Bayonetta. But what would happen to Creative Assembly, which is a PC oriented company? Would Nintendo start making PC games, or let them go? I think they've shown that they're ready to take on other genres than strategy with Alien: Isolation. But What would Nintendo do with Total War?

As for Capcom, there's 4 major franchises that would suit Nintendo quite well; Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Mega Man and Monster Hunter. Those games alone should warrant Nintendo to buy Capcom. Capcom could continue to produce all of those games while Nintendo could/would/should take Mega Man from them and show him some proper love. Another game that would suit Nintendo well is Okami from capcom.

A merger with Playstation (NOT Sony) is by far the least likely option. Sony isn't is such dire need of money that they would sell off one of their profitable division, but it would have been quite beneficial to Nintendo to either acquire Playstation or merge with them if they were to break away from Sony proper. They would make ONE console, with inputs from both divisions (Nintendo and Playstation) and have the best 1st party line up in the history of everything. It would be utter world domination. By all the gods, a Nintendo Playstation would crush everything. But PS would need some independence since Nintendo wouldn't know how to handle that brand and would surely fuck up if they were in charge...

So, looking at all the options in the poll, buying Capcom is the best way to go for Nintendo. I'd be more interested in seeing them start up new studios though, and begin new IP's

They should buy Sega and make Persona exclusive! The meltdowns would be epic

I will say one thing, and that is:

Nintendo MUST Buy Capcom, Have SEGA as 2nd Party and buy Platinum Games. (And expand Retro Studio, Monolith Soft, Intelligent Systems and Hal Laboratories.)

Heh. Alternate history agrees with you. If only Nintendo hadn't cancelled the Playstation all those years ago.

The only choice that makes sense is Capcom. They are spiraling right now and their business would be very beneficial to Nintendo. They have a decent legacy on Nintendo Consoles and they would severely hamper the competition if they were exclusive. Not to mention, they are probably the only one out of the big three that would be able to buy them. (Microsoft is not Japanese and Sony is not in a good position to make that type of acquisition financially.)

It's not just The Creative Assembly. Sega also own Relic (Company of Heroes + Dawn of War) and Sports Interactive (Football Manager). I think Sega's PC studios and franchises are more valuable than their consoles ones, so it would be kind of silly to buy them and not keep up the PC games.

Yeah, I would much rather have Nintendo buying Capcom; they don't even need half of the games Sega has.

I'll have to agree with *SoR: Nintendo should focus on expanding some of its studios while also increasing their number.

Buying Sega or Capcom wouldn't have any short-term effect and Nintendo would need a lot of time reorganizing and restructuring them (and we all know that both of them but specially Sega need to be shaken from ground to the top). Also, buying a studio doesn't mean much if the creative minds in it see that oportunity to leave and create their own studios like Yuji Naka or the many people that left Capcom to form Platinum.

No, it'd make more sense and also cost them a lot less money to invest in expand and create new studios, not only in Japan but also in Europe and in the US and give them enough freedom to create new IPs and/or work on smaller Nintendo IPs to offset the lack of third party games.

Nintendo is highly unlikely to merge or be bought as a compnany - Perhaps in an unusual liklehood they might sell some ip for a big number but thats about it asvfaras merging or being aquired

Nintendo is more likely to buy a compnany like Sega, Capcom, Atlus etc or perhsps buy some of a companies assers, ip, studios etc Weather or not they have any interest in the above companies ir their assets i have no idea

if Capcom wantd o raise some money they could put Monster Hunter Franchise in plsy - i would think Sony and Nintendo would bd it up - MH could turn sround Sony s handheld iv pretty quick and imo they coud do much morevw it on home conoles world wide than Capcom has - Or if MSFT decidd to take a big shot at being relevnt in Japan maybe tey could even buy it leasing the rights for handheld and pushing the console version but thatis lesslikely

NIntendo ould never sell to Disney as a company or to MSFT. NINTENDO would be a very difficult comany to aquirand assimilate as they have a very srong traditional cuture among other things
