1.) You left out how you get free games and discounts from PS+, etc.
2.) If you're using these arguments, you should also include the cost of having to buy an external HDD for Wii U if you want to buy more than one game digitally, which actually can be impossible with only 32 GB.
For example, Batman: Archam City is 19 GB on Wii U. If you buy that game digitally, you may not even be able to get another game digitally depending on which one you want.

1) That isn't of much importance for most users given the increase in PS+ subscribers on PS3 Vs PS4. And I've read somewhere that at the time (PS3) they used to give better games...

2) Gotta agree with you on that. It certainly is an issue. I mean not for me cuz I like the boxes all neat and sparkly on my shelf, but to those who prefer digital instead.

Yes I completely agree. And although it is true that the online experience is better after online gaming is put behind a paywall, its not that much better. Look at PSN right now. Its have trouble very frequently and it always having maintenaince. Even X1 with its supposedly strong servers has trouble as seen with the master chief collection.

Well, in all honesty, that is because the game was poorly made, not because of servers. Microsoft does have better and more reliable servers. They are not always 100%, but still have much less problems than PSN.

I had X360 for 5 years, sure, it had some breakdowns, but I don't remeber it ever having interruptions for maintenance. PSN has them at least once a month for 6-8 hours (and usually when it's evening in Europe).

I get what ur trying to say and I agree... With the wiiu, you pay $300 and thats all u need to pay for in order to play games to their full extent when it comes to Nintendos side that is. Vs, on the x1/ps4, if you get a game and u want to use its online features, you haveeeee to pay for online or have that portion of the game be locked behind a "pay wall." And I dont think the extra features are enough to justify the mandatory requirement. If it was optional, great but as a mandatory requirement for me, it isnt. So I agree

You pay for online and although I believe it's not mandatory, about 90%-100% will pay for it. Even the casuals which only play FIFA or CoD will have to.

To close it up, people who believe WiiU costs also as much as PS4/X1 are wrong. Yes you get stronger hardware but you also end up spending a lot more.

Add the price of an external harddrive if you want to download any significant amount of DLC or other downloadable content...

and well, you get a machine even worse specced than the XB1...

But you gain access to the Nintendo titles! yay!

As for the number of people paying for PS+/Live Gold... well Sony has about 7 million users I believe (maybe less) and this includes PS3/4 as well as Vita and maybe even some PSP users! so this is far below 50%.

Yes, stronger hardware cost more, the online services charging for online play is a bit arbitrary, especially for games that rely on p2p to run their matches :-/ and those who have dedicated servers .. those servers are not necessarily handled by the platform owners... what can I say? well... I don't do MP, so let some other people argue about the merits of this charging.

well you are in the middle of some quite gap...

If you want to play new cod online with WiiU it will cost you nothing as the game aint available, so 0 cost.

If you want to play MK8 online and use the voucher to download your digital code then you need a 50+ dollars HD more 300 for the console so you end up forking the same as an X1 with AC IV + U and trial XBL.

Some would say that if Nintendo decided to charge for online no one would pay because there aint much to play online.

Don't forget subscribed or free to play can be played without PS+;

So you can have warframe, blacklight, DC U and warthunder for free... so 400 dollars, 4 games and no fee... seem to be equivalent to 300 dollars WiiU with one game.

Ok, 1st of all although i'm mainly a Nintendo fan, I'm above all a gaming fan, I always get at least 2 consoles per generation. But this thread isn't the "my console is better than yours" kind of thread. One should play what satisfies its needs.

 I've just been reading a lot about the price of the consoles around here and people seem to be getting something wrong. I hear WiiU costs almost as much as a X1 or PS4. Well that ain't quite true:

- If I buy a a Wii U and play it for 5 years, it'll cost me € 300;

- If I buy a PS4 or X1 for € 300 and play it for 5 years I'll  pay during that period something like € 650.

You pay for online and although I believe it's not mandatory, about 90%-100% will pay for it. Even the casuals which only play FIFA or CoD will have to.

We now have to pay for online capabilities in both PS/Xbox which is a way to milk people out of even more money. And don't believe tha "it's for better support" BS because I've never had any problems on my WiiU online play (even though it's the weakest online structure out of the 3) neither I had on my PSN. And I've played for hundres of hours on CoD:BOpsII and MK8 (WiiU) or FiFA and Bad Company2 (PS3).

Last generation Microsoft tested the waters while Sony stood back observing, using the non-paid online as difference maker. Turns out it wasn't, they realized people didn't mind paying fees for online gaming, so this gen Sony followed suit. But it really is a way for you to pay a console through yearly instalments while advertising it has just a € 300 or € 350 console or whatever. It's marketing strategy, plain and simple.

Not to mention the added value the gamepad has (although heavily criticized, mostly from non wiiu owners) with off tv play. Although this probably doesn't affect everyone, it still affects a lot of people. I've had this girlfriend for more than 7 years now, and the gamepad has been a godsend for me. Before I had WiiU I had to endure all those tv shows, soap operas and the such. Now, while she's watching the reality shows I dreadfully hate, I'm right beside her on BOps II getting ruthless awards. :D

To close it up, people who believe WiiU costs also as much as PS4/X1 are wrong. Yes you get stronger hardware but you also end up spending a lot more.

Don't forget to factor in power consumption, which could add another $50 per year.

It's okay though, 9% of gamers use solar and the rest are getting free extra graphics for their money.

Given the game sizes for each platform, a 32Gb WiiU can store essentially the same number of games as a 500Gb PS4 or Xbone.

Adding a 1Tb external HDD to a WiiU is also much more effective than adding the same to a PS4 or Xbone, as you'd be hard-pressed to fill it up, even going mental on digital purchases.
