- If I buy a a Wii U and play it for 5 years, it'll cost me € 300;

- If I buy a PS4 or X1 for € 300 and play it for 5 years I'll  pay during that period something like € 650.

You pay for online and although I believe it's not mandatory, about 90%-100% will pay for it. Even the casuals which only play FIFA or CoD will have to.

To close it up, people who believe WiiU costs also as much as PS4/X1 are wrong. Yes you get stronger hardware but you also end up spending a lot more.

Add the price of an external harddrive if you want to download any significant amount of DLC or other downloadable content...

and well, you get a machine even worse specced than the XB1...

But you gain access to the Nintendo titles! yay!

As for the number of people paying for PS+/Live Gold... well Sony has about 7 million users I believe (maybe less) and this includes PS3/4 as well as Vita and maybe even some PSP users! so this is far below 50%.

Yes, stronger hardware cost more, the online services charging for online play is a bit arbitrary, especially for games that rely on p2p to run their matches :-/ and those who have dedicated servers .. those servers are not necessarily handled by the platform owners... what can I say? well... I don't do MP, so let some other people argue about the merits of this charging.

Don't forget subscribed or free to play can be played without PS+;

So you can have warframe, blacklight, DC U and warthunder for free... so 400 dollars, 4 games and no fee... seem to be equivalent to 300 dollars WiiU with one game.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"
