Forums - Nintendo - Bloomberg: Nintendo says Smash Wii U has more pre-orders than MK8.

As if ...
Nintendo (and most VGC users as well it seems) forget that Smash is for a completely different target group. Mario Kart sells well over time to families and friends, pretty much "every" gamer; Smash is a game that people buy who love gaming and don't just play it with friends at the weekend. Those people already own a Wii U because they can't wait buying new stuff so they pre-order Smash as well. Sales will drop way harder than Mario Kart's and its impact on hardware won't be "similarly dramatic".
But if saying "this is going to sell loads!" makes even more people want it to stay cool, I'm ok with this kind of PR talk.

I'm betting most smash buyers don't own a wii u yet. and because holydays, I don't think sales will drop quickly. MK may have longer legs but smash always has legs too.

i want to see how many consoles it will move.
They have to reach 10M at the end of year.

Sales will be more front-loaded no doubt.

Yeah, lets compare it to one of the best legs franchise of all time. SSBU legs> Most games this generation for every system!

I think 10m will be achieved easily.

Big fucking congrats if true but i'm sticking with my prediction that mk8 will be bigger. In Japan I think it will be small. COMG have very few pre orders for it but that could change.

EDIT: Just noticed they have a seperate Gamecube bundle for SSB. If that's a hardware bundle then i expect a nice little bump.

On COMG, Smash>Kart

Why does everyone seem to forget that Smash also has legs?

and MK8 came with a limited time free game.
not bad, smash.
but i think lifetime, SSB is no match for MK8.

I was one of the people who thought 3DS sales would hurt Wii U ones... how wrong I was. Nintendo was soooo smart for doing this. Hopefully, in the future, other Nintendo titles adopt this model of game releases. I'm pinning hopes on a New 3DS and Wii U 3D Mario title.
