Forums - Gaming - Splatoon' Single-Player Means Nintendo Is Birthing A New Uber-Franchise

"I’m growing tired of Nintendo HD-remaking every game that was once popular on their systems"

Can someone remind me how many HD remakes Nintendo has made, because I have this strange feeling that it's, like, one or something.

Bayonetta does not meet the condition of having been "once popular on (Nintendo's) systems."

it was known that it would have single player mode at E3

what is this guy talking about? what Nintendo HD remakes other than WW are there?

1 for the Wii U in two years (Zelda: WW), 2 for the 3DS to date (Oot 3D, Star Fox 64 though Pokemon Remakes + MM + Xenoblade are coming). Nintendo handhelds have had "remakes" since forever though (Super Mario Bros. 1-3, World, and Yoshi's Island, Zelda III, and several others were remade for the GBA).

Not exactly a "ton".

Master Chief Collection alone is 4 games "remade", lol.

Not many, but to be fair, OoT 3D was a pretty lazy job. They just reused the N64 code and most all the same textures and models.

I'm hopeful for Splatoon: it looks fun and marketable. Also doesn't look like it took as big a team as say the latest CoD to put together.

Right now just waiting for officially-licensed squid hats

I'm talking about stuff like a crossover cartoon/anime, heavily push it to parents as the kid friendly alternative to COD, etc.

Are you insane? Why would you want Nintendo to do Sony's and Microsoft's job of pushing the kiddy image on Splatoon?

The "kiddie" image was sealed from the moment they gave it colours other than grey and brown. They may as well make the most of it.

I disagree.  Keep the message neutral, focus on the gameplay and mechanics, keep that quirky-but-cool attitude that was in the latest trailer.  I mean, yeah, air the commercials on a channel with younger audiences but also target other channels.  Don't brand it as a childs game, that would seriously limit the franchise.

I don't know where all this blind faith and promise is coming from for splatoon. Is it just that Nintendo is making a new shooter IP or something I'm missing?

I'm thinking it's because of all the buzz it's generating in the gaming community, especially amongst journalists and critics. If it's as good as we're all hoping it will be, the result could very well be somewhere between Bayonetta 2 (a critical darling) and Mario Kart 8 (an established fan favorite). Positive reviews, a healthy amount of exposure via its E3 showing, and family friendly tone that resonates with a large portion of the user-base - something that Bayonetta 2 is missing - could very well push it into smash hit territory.

1.5-2.5m lifetime isn't out of the question. I would be shocked if it sold less than 800k.

Edit: Let's all assume the Wii U will have met or surpassed the 10m mark by Q2 2015, right?

I really hope Splatoon will sell at least 1.5 million-2 million, because it would be awesome if Splatoon would become a franchise!

They are trying hard to make Xenoblade big. I really like that.
Splatoon should be their next big IP. Cos the last one like that (excluding Wii Sports) is Pikmin imho. Has HUGE potential.

I would say Metroid is not released enough (with online). And that BOTH Starfox and Kid Icarus have very big unused potential.

KI is closer than Starfox I would think.

The article specified HD remakes. 3DS has no such thing.
