The force and Jedis were everywhere when Han was a kid, and yet within a generation their ways become viewed as outdated and weapons "ancient". That either means the Empire had incredible reach and cultural dominance (not really shown on Tatooine in the original Star Wars) or people just had really short memories. There were still living people who would have witnessed the Clone Wars when Han is an adult. Closest analogy I can draw in our world would be people now acting like the Soviet Union was some odd ancient state. |
I doubt most folks ever actually saw the Jedi in action though. They appeared to have been elitist and monastic for the most part.
