so the reality is Destiny W5 > Halo 4 W5.

and Halo 4 W5 > Destiny W5 with cherry picking platforms.

I think I made that clear in the OP.

There were predictions that Destiny on 8th gen would be ahead of Halo 4 by now.

Some people thought it would happen on week 1 even. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=187161

ohh some people thought it would happen week one, this totally makes the reasoning of your cherry picking more logical. im sorry.

1st year game sales compared to an established console hitting it's peak in sales and in overall ownership.

I don't think that argument always works. Most IPs tend to lose steam even if the userbase has grown.

For example, Gears 3 hasn't caught up to Gears 2 in spite of launching to a larger userbase.

I do not even see what arguement you are even making based on this response. Your original post just states different games sales totals at the same point in total sales time. You make no conclusion about this. you just state dATA.

You're saying Halo had the advantage by being on a console hitting its peak year in sales. I'm saying that argument doesn't always work.

Right, I am just stating data. This might be surprising to people who had even higher expectations for Destiny. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=187161

Not sure the point you are trying to make.

But as the 4th (5th) mainline Halo game it did not really sell that well compared to what it could have sold. It still sold very well, as it is a Halo game. 2012 was not a bad year for HW sales and it had a high install base so it could have sold a bit more then Halo Reach. Halo 3 had the highest advantage as it has had 7 years to sell.

And as a new ip Destiny has sold phenomenally. Not only that but it is apparently not reviewed that great.

Edit: read future posts, apparently its just a revenge thread. meh.....

Userbase.

I could have said... Halo 4 did better than Destiny on 360/X1 or PS3/PS4 combined. That would give Destiny a userbase advantage with Halo 4 still ahead.

Instead, I just pointed out Halo 4 is ahead of Destiny's two leading platforms at the moment. Which is coincidently the smaller userbase.

So a well established franchise with a world famous icon on a bigger user base is selling more than a new IP???????

OH MY GOD!!

Another importante one: Destiny is a NEW IP.

This is hardly surprising; the xbox brand's biggest franchise by far in its fourth mainline installment on a 71 million installed base and releasing in early/mid November versus a brand new IP with the main focus on a platform where the dev has little pedigree, releasing in the fall on a total installed base of ~17 million (at the time of release).

Let's not pretend that Bungie made Halo before and nobody knew it.

Yes bigger userbase means lower attach ratio, but compare 85M to 15M on proved IP (even in decline) against new IP is quite strange. Why don't you compare Halo MCC to Halo 4 and say the franche is dead if it don't reach 9M right?
