My PC room is to far from the living room for me to connect the PC to my projector. I do have a small lenovo ideacentre minidesktop in my living room though. Its basically a remote reciever for XBMC (kodi) from the PC in my PC room and for light browsing on the projector screen.

Haha at the steam sales, if there is one thing I like about PC gaming its that.

I got around that... By "streaming" my PC over my network.

Think of remote play, but in every single room of your home at the same time, when my sister brings her kids over, they go balastic and they access my Steam full Library from $100 "Dumb Clients". (Better than letting them use my thousands of dollars worth of hardware.)

You certainly can be both depending on what post I read.   Condescending has nothing to do with that though, stop acting like you're better than everyone.

Quite frankly, the "Pick one, make a game of it" just shows me that you have the wrong attitude for discussion.

If all you're going to do is nitpick and hate on someone whilst not adding anything new or constructive to the topic at hand, then don't bother posting.

What I stated was in jest, lighten up, recognise a joke when you see one.

That particular problem was a long time ago, I was playing FS 2004 and Everquest at the time. NVidia flavor. Geforce FX series I think.

It's a good thing nVidia never released a GPU with a "TnL chip" to get burnt out then.

6 years if you heavily investing on higher price spec, and it's actually quite risk, most of hardware is easy to become faulty, and later on become hard to upgrade some several part especially cpu (some new cpu require you to upgrade mother board and the result you have to build from basic again and defeat the purpose of cost saving money on upgrading.

If you go LGA 2011, you are then playing with server-class hardware in some cases, which has more reliability testing than consoles.

Heck, My bus terminal is still using a 386/486 PC running DOS (That's right, no Microsoft Windows), that thing would have to be 20+ years old.
I have another PC in my home which is 6 years old with a Core 2 Quad, 8Gb of Ram and a $30 Radeon 6570, you would be surprised how it runs games and it's never skipped a beat.
I also have zero need to upgrade the CPU, even though it's freaking ancient, at 3.6ghz it still handles everything fine.

The warranty on my main PC is also longer than a console generation, my motherboard is at 10 years, my CPU has a "single failure" warranty after 3 years, thus if I blow my CPU up after the warranty is expired, I get a new CPU (Here we are at 3 years!), my PSU has a 7 year warranty, my Ram has a lifetime warranty, my SSD's have a 5 year warranty... The list goes on.
The point is, if you pick and choose the right hardware, it can exceed a console in terms of reliability, MTBF and warranty.

Let's not forget PC's just plain look cooler than the boring black console boxes.

you summed up and agree :D, compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 how many games can be played from 2007 until 2013 on GTX8800?

Look how many games on PC 2007 onward some games require some upgrade here and there to run, even small upgrade, for examples games like Call of Duty Ghost, Wolf stain, Splinter cell and etc.

Yup you need money to buy good parts on PC and time and effort to search in Internet, asking some friend, and knowledge so no one able to fool you.

like i said different type of people who played on console and PC, and thus comparing them directly is a bit silly and comparing the hardware is even more stupid.

The principle is more like PC (General PC) is more of like Swiss army knife and console is more of cooking knife, but dedicated gaming PC is more of the expensive Swiss army knife with the capability and also flexibility but the price also far exceeding both knife.

If you wan't to get technical... I never bought into the Geforce 8xxx series, it's nVidia. ;)

However... If we were to for instance take my 6-7 year old PC with it's Core 2 Quad, 8Gb of DDR2... It's not going to be setting anyones world on fire in the performance stakes.

However, fast forward multiple years, I dropped a Radeon 6570 into it for $30.
Suddenly I am able to play pretty much all console multi-platforms just fine again, even today I am throwing games at it like Defense Grid 2 and Battlefield 4 at high at 720P/30fps without a problem, obviously the Core 2 Quad is heavily overclocked and I didn't leave the low-profile Radeon 6570 clocks un-touched either.
But for $30? Can you really argue with that? Considering you can pick up a Core 2 Quad from recyclers now essentially for free...

To put that into perspective... That is less than the price of a console controller.
If I wanted to push for higher resolutions, then bumping that $30 graphics card to a $200 Radeon R9 270 would be the better idea (Or a Second hand Radeon 7850/7870 for about $100 AUD), then you could push for 1080P in the majority of titles, Mantle would help massively for a low-end rig like this.

Upgrading a PC is pretty darn easy, AMD even made a video of a monkey doing it, websites like toms hardware, guru3D and Anandtech can give you a good idea of what to get with their "Best cards" at various price points.
If you don't feel confident doing it yourself, any reputable computer store is usually more than happy to do it for you.

However, this isn't the norm, but you do have the choice and choice is never a bad thing.

Actually that's not entirely true. Look up the paradox of choice, or psychology of too many choices.

I quickly get demotivated when I start looking for a new GPU, so many options. Before I was happy when a game had pages of graphics options, configurable ini files and what not, nowadays I don't care. I rather have the chef prepare a well balanced meal for me than build my own subway sandwhich.
I was excited for a bit when Steam announced the Steam box. 1 or maybe a few pc specs that games would be optimized for and guarantee a good baseline performance like on consoles, in a neat box to put under the tv. Well it didn't quite turn out to be that. I don't know enough of current hardware to confidently put together my own system in little time, yet enough to know there are probably better/different/cheaper ways if I keep looking. With consoles, no need to keep looking, just play the games.

Choice is good, especially binary choices, and I chose not to be part of the PC master race anymore :)

So you never once said "Lol... ok, if you so." or "And if you can get you head in the game" (hint; start at page 10).

I've mentioned benchmarks before...so the issue is that you didn't read my replies carefully. This picture is starting to become more clear. As for being "off the mark", I'm not - I just don't tolerate people making ill informed comments. I don't have to deal with folks like that in real life, so why tolerate them here? ^^ I would make an epic moderator.

What is your point?  Are you defending the points in the OP, wanting people to debate them, or disagreeing with them? Because I've assumed the 1st and 2nd. Also I think your grammar hasn't helped as sometimes it makes your sentences somewhat incoherent which never helps in a debate.

Ok... I hear you. But please, lets give it a rest. I think this debate, argument, misunderstanding or attack (whichever you wanna call it) has gone on long enough. We are just going round in circles. Cause I could just as easily be saying to you that you should look at what you said that made me respond to you like that in the first place. But its enough.

I honestly don't know what we are talking about now or what the point of this discussion is. So lets just agree to disagree.

The fact that I asked you to clarify yourself/your points/the OP and you yet again dodge such direct questioning means that you are simply out for an argument rather than a debate.

If you have no problem with playing in 720p and with reduced effects of the newer titles, you can play most of the 7th generation games with a 8800 GTX.

You don't quit do you? Clarify myself? Are you being serious?

Anyways, I will indulge you.

Please, can yu kindly point out exactly what it is I have said that you need clarifying. You could quote something if that would help. But please keep it to things that I have said and not what you have inferred. So just point out exactly what I have said that you need me to clarify. This way its simpler for both of us and we keep theis thread on a subject that is actually being discussed and not one being assumed.

And in as few words as possible, I will reply exactly what it is that you have asked. Now its one thing to give you a reply explaning my position, its a completely different matter if you somehow feel that I am "lying" about my position and really mean to be saying something else even if I don't. If this turns out like that again, then I hope you would understand why/if I no longer respond to your queries.

Sounds fair?

I prefer console:

Easy to set up and I dont have to worry if my console is powerful enough to run the game smoothly or not etc.

Also, Im a local party guy, I like to play in the living room with a big screen with friends and share the experience. PC is like a 1 person party (same with handhelds) where I feel like im isolating myself or a loner.

And of course the exclusives.

Oh look again, avoiding such a straight forward question.

Did you not read the part in bold? Of course not, or you just want to ignore it.

Well I think I just proved you're here only to start fights rather than debate.

glorious god gamers don't compare such things. we're above those that game on only one hardware.

You referring to this?

What is your point?  Are you defending the points in the OP, wanting people to debate them, or disagreeing with them?

If thats the case,

  • MY POINT: Is that if the performance of a game running on PCs are being compared to it running on consoles, then the "spec" of the PC used should match the "spec" of the console its being compared to.
  • AS FOR THE POINTS IN THE OP: They are there for the sole reason of emphasising the point above. To show that theer are a vast number of different PC hardware classes and how relatively easy it should be finding those that match the specs in a console. Either using the cost of the console as a guide or the hardware inside it. I also hoped to show that there are also very different type of consumers, hoping to point out (what was already obvious) that most people just want to walk in and buy stuff and how they do not attach the kinda reasoning, research or DIY attitude that majority of PC gamers have.
  • AS FOR PPL DEBATING THEM: Thats not really my business. I have not stopped anyone from arguing or debating the points I made in the OP. They after all are just reasons I gave to support the main point I was trying to make. Which again, is that comparisons should be made between hardware that are in the same class.
  • AS FOR WAT THE PC GUYS ARE PUSHING: The PC guys (unless I am mistaken) seem to be saying that the true cost of ownership of a console is not $400. But rather $400+annual sub fees+higher average costs of games+duration of a generation. And as such is in line with more expensive PC hardware. That kinda reasoning (while true depending on perspective) only applies to my argument if my argumnet was in quantifying the Performance:dolar ratio of consoles vs PC. Which is not what I am doing. Because that inherently would factor in a number of variables that is simply impossible to predict and varies from user to user. But one thing that you can gurantee, is how much a person spends over the counter for a console and how much a GPU costs at any point in a gaming generation. If you want me to point out why this kinda reasoning is very inaccurate in relation to hardwae costs I will. Though that has nothing to do with this thread.
Hope that satisfies you. And maybe you understand why I didnt bother explaining all this again. Keep in mind what my main point is here. I don't mind you disputing any other supporting point I made for whatever your reasons are. Just consider how whatever you are saying applies to my main point. And contrary  to what you may think, how you talk doesn't encourage discussion. If anything you are more likely to antagonize than nuture. You should be mindful of the fact that a lot has been said in this thread, its highly likely that I may just not know exactly what question you are asking which is why i sincerely asked you to point me in the right direction. Yet you do not waste time to throw your accusations around. If my inability to keep up with your myriad of questions and how I respond to you somehow irritates or frustrates you, then do try and imagine how talking to you makes me feel considerring I feel you are not even talking about the same thing I am talking about and that I have tried more than once to explain that to you. Yet.... here I am.
