I think 2014 will be hard to beat for the Wii U, in terms of impact at least, the combo of Mario Kart and Smash is quite massive and they are by far their biggest franchises. |
To be honest they've been saying this since the N64 days if you go back even further, I remember they were promising more N64 games after they had finished the Mario 64 and Zelda: OoT engines.
It's kind of like when Iwata always says they need to focus on having a good flow of software after launch (said this before the 3DS and Wii U launches, lol) and then end up not delivering.
