Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is profitable again. 220 million in Q2, 4.5 billion in the bank (Excluding assets?)

i didnt open the link but how much is their expenses? os is the 220m their net profit?

$220 million is their net profit for the last quarter (July-September). Net profit meaning the actual net cash gain they took home.

I think Nintendo should make an ok sized profit this fiscal year, they almost always profit during Q3 (the holiday season), so they'd have to lose a ton of money in Q4 to somehow erase their gains from Q2 + 3.

Didn't they have 10 billion in the bank just a couple years ago? Or am I remembering wrong?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

"In the bank" is kind of a misleading metric to look at, simply because it doesn't make sense to just leave cash sitting there, especially in the last year or so where the stock market has been booming overall, you would get a far better return on that cash if it was invested in securities.

I believe Nintendo purchased a large chunk of its own shares too back from the Yamauchi family after Mr. Yamauchi's passing. But that doesn't mean the money "dissapeared" or something, it just means its there in the form of stock holdings now rather than just vanilla cash.

Net tangible assets:

Sony: $9.4bn

Nintendo: $9.7bn

Microsoft: $62.7bn

are these assets of gaming division only? If no, woow at NIntendo competing with multiproducts like Sony and Micro

$20 bn, actually. That was 1 or 2 years ago. I believe last time they reported, they had $14 bn. Why are they losing/using so much money? Beats me.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

No I believe that's Sony as a whole.

Like I said this isn't really an accurate way to look at things.

Cash is often turned into stocks by companies simply because it makes more sense to invest it into the market rather than just leave it doing nothing.

But that doesn't mean the cash suddenly vanished or something.

Also currency changes can make the same amount of money worth X one day and Y the other. That's kind of a cycle though.

Whilst I agree they arent in financial trouble... your thread comes off a bit silly.

Why are you sayin holy shit to 9.7bn assets. Thats the lowest it has been for years.

They are profitable? Not yet they arent. They havent made a profit yet, quarterly or 6 monthly results are meaningless. The full year figure is what decides is they have made a profit.

If you make a profit in a quarter but make an overall annual loss you never made a profit.

I don't mean this in a rude or personal way, but your post comes off as a shade pathetic, as if its intention was less to correct misinformation and more to downplay news.

Make that more than a little pathetic. But I'm sure you are calm and happy while grinding that axe, so grind away....?

I don't think they ever had cash reserves that large. Are you sure about your numbers?

It's a positive sign for nintendo. A solid quarter, despite less than great sales. If they've turned a profit now, I think, atleast for awhile, maybe until their next wave of console/handheld, they should be profitable. Good, because I would hate to see my favorite gaming company go belly up.... now, if sony could somehow make a profit for once, then everything would be nice. I won't hold my breath on that one though.

I want more QOL.
