Now i m start thinking that companies should announce sales instead of shipments...it s obligatory, they cause confusion! At least sony are informing us someday...Are we ever going to get sales number from ms and nintendo?i think when both systems will hit 10m?

Its really not confusing at all. The companies report what they sell, and they sell to retailers. They don't care what the retailers do with it

more. or less ;)
they care if they buy further stock etc.

but ofc they dont give sold trough numbers. its way harder to track and estimate. just put out shipped numbers is so easy. the 80m x360 and ps4 announcement were shipped numbers, too. no sold through.

I think Japan with its new bundles can help WiiU still stay ahead for the year, last year WiiU did grrat there, this year it will have better bundles and games aswell.

Just to add my 2 cents; I don't understand how anyone can argue against the Wii U being overtracked at this point. 7.29 million shipped by Sept. 30th and an actual sellthrough of 7.44 million on Oct. 18th would imply at least one of the following points:

1: The Wii U sold through every single unit in the previous shipment, effectively leaving zero stock, despite there being no reports in any region or from any chain or vendor of shortages or stock issues and have continued selling through every single unit in stock in October. We also know that some stores actually shipped units back due to excess stock about a year ago...

2: They did have surplus stock by Sept. 30th and have shipped an obscene amount (relatively) in the beginning of October and have actually sold about 120-140k per week in October and seen an unprecedented rise of weeky sales in the 110-180% region or so for no good reason at all.

3: Nintendo is confused themselves over the definition of shipped vs sold, could be a side effect of Iwata's recent surgery, perhaps he was drowsy from the anesthetic and made a mistake that everyone in the management somehow overlooked (they may have been operated on as well).

Nintendo on bare minimum has sold 120K Wii U's in October or max of 150-165K...

There are at least by end of Oct 7.3 million Wii U's sold to consumers...

There isn't, because they were not above 7m sold going into October.

You want to believe that they were not...

Americas shipped: 3.43M

USA: 2.77M - NPD / Canada: min 10% of US market 0.277M  / Mexico: + South America: ?

http://www.globalcollect.com/news/press/globalcollect-and-newzoo-brazil-dominates-the-fast-growing-latam-games-market

Brazil + Mexico video game market are worth 2.4B$ together which is 10% of US market, Wii U is apparently most popular 8th gen console in SA(specially Brazil)... So in Americas as of 30th September there could be 3,324M Wii U's sold so 110K stock/ on the shelves...

In Japan as of 28th September there are 1.92M sold(Famitsu) out of 1.97M shipped so 40-50K in stocks...

150-160K Wii U in stocks Americas + Japan...

So Europe has 140-150K Wii U's in stock? Impossible... Europe video game market is half size of US...

Maximum Wii U in stock for Europe is 50-60K ...

So 200-220K max on shelves...

Nah, 300k on shelves is about right in this scenario.

I already thought that it might be overtracked... it's a shame :/
I still think (or hope), that it's not as extreme as some people here say. I mean: 1 million? c'mon now :)

Im new-ish, are hardware numbers really as way off as they've been these past few months? It's almost making me lose interest in the hardware sales aspect of this site. But people will probably start asking me why i come to a sales site if i dont care about that. That's gonna be fun.

This thread is filled with sore losers and sore winners aplenty, which is kinda funny, but more annoying.

As a Brazilian, it is nowhere near true. Almost nobody has a Wii U here. The X1 is in all stores and the PS4 is selling a lot. Wii U is as expensive as a X1 here. PS4 was launched as the most expensive, but retailers are discounting it and selling for the price of the X1 and it's quite easy to find one cheaper.

I'm not that sure if the X1 or PS4 is the number 1 here, but it's quite easy to see that the Wii U is not popular. The lack of Fifa 15 on the Wii U will kill it. Everybody here wants Fifa or PES and nobody wants a console that doesn't have it.

Well, 300k off isn't a bad number. It's less than 5% and that's pretty decent for estimates.

like usual? I have been pretty spot on lately, didn't realise I had to bake everything up. Just look at the numerous people agreeing with me, 300k on shelves makes sense. Shipped = Sold does not.
