It seems March will be the biggest month in US ever. Two really big games - GoW and CCFFVII... I expect really solid start for both titles. (as for PSP standards obviously) I think anything below 300k as for week one will be a major disappointment. PSP itself should exceed 350k in March easily (US only).
On the other hand really pathetic performance of proven franchises like Syphon Filter, Silent Hill or Wipeout (!!!!!) makes me a bit worried...

300k ... dont expect that much kber81 . If both pass 100k first week , than you can call it stelar performance . 300k will never be reached by any ( maybe if a miracle will come ) but both will end over 1 million in the US lifetime ( probably , well CoO for shue , because there is a bundle comming ;) ) . PSP games arent known for their huge debute weks in the US , they are better known over their great legs , and thats what Im counting for over this two beasts :D

Next week we will see how much CoO did , because tomorow will be the big release day :D

PS : kingofwale - mine was old anyways , a new one was needed ;)

This list of games doesn't really say much about the PSP's library. Personaly, I think the PSP already has better games availible for it than the games on your list, KingofWale. And when compared to the lineup the DS has, the list looks very mediocre. I'm not understanding why you included a sports game on you list. This is a handheld we'r talking about, not a console. The games multplayer aspect loses it's appeal on the PSP.

The PSP is a great handheld, but it can and already has done better games than these. Another thing you should consider: Most of the games you have listed are games have very similar qualities to highly percieved games already on the PSP. They may, in fact, be inferior to those already existing games. I know I would take FFI and FFII over both of the FF's on your list. Secret Agent Clank looks like it's merely a spin-off, and I doubt it will be as good as the Ratchet game the PSP already has.

I'm afraid I don't see how this list makes 08 the PSP's best year.

DAMNIT, GIVE ME A SEARCH FUNCTION, VGC!

Yeah, hunter's thread came into my mind when I saw the title of this thread.

The final list shwon on that thread is very thorough.

Agree, our forum here has some very informative threads, but very hard to go back because the lack of search function.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

So Patapon , CC , Wipeout Pulse , Chainsof Olympus , Dissidia , Ecochrome are games that wont make wawes ... I dont think so . And what major DS game is comming out this year , that makes the PSPs lineup mediocre ? I realy want to know . Or mayeb the fact that at this point the PSP has the highest rated portable game and it has more 8+ rated games than the DS , makes you say this . I realy cant se where the awesomness of the DSs game library comes from . Yes NSMB is cool , but again its another Mario game . LoZ is great to , but its just a new Zelda game . Both the PSP and the DS have their own share of spinoffs/ports , so I dont think that we can say that ones library is wors than the others ...

God of War: Chains of Olympus looks amazing for a handheld game. The graphics are truly outstanding. MLB 08' doesn't look too bad either.

1.)My response to your what big DS game is comming out question:

Dragon Quest 9. This is one of the biggest games all year for any system. It's going to be huge in Japan, and it will probably outsell every game on King of Wale's list combined! This game will be better than all of the RPG's the PSP is getting by far! It's not a spin-off and has Level 5 working on the game. Dragon Quest 9 might just be the JRPG of the year; there's no doubt that it will outscore all the others including the PSP's Kingdom Hearts game.

2.)The reason the why DS's library is so awesome:

I like it because it has a lot of quality games in the genres that work best for handhelds. It has a lot of pick-up-and-play RPG's that don't require you to play them as a console RPG. Pokemon is the best example. Games like Pokemon are games you can play anywhere, any time, and any place; whereas a game like Final Fantasy becomes useless in situations like waiting for a bus or something. A lot of the PSP's games require long periods of time to play them properly. The DS is great when it comes to quality games that manage to take advantage of the fact that the system is a handheld.

I think you misunderstood my post, Hunter_Alien. I was not critisizing the PSP itself or it's library. I happen to think that the PSP has a great library, and it does what it's good at better than any other system including the DS. However, this list does not make '08 the PSP's best year. The PSP has had bigger games than these in it's past years. Games like Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto are bigger than the games on this list.

Thst the problem . It will be big in Japan , and it will sell decent in other teritories . Dont get me wrong , but I dont want just one great game/year , I rather have a bit more . MGS and GTAs have smaller ratings than GoW on the PSP , so no , they are not bigger . GTA may push more systems , but MGS : PO deffinatly didnt push as many PSPs as CoO or CC will ( or in the case of CC , had ) .

Yes , they where many great games already on the PSP , and I was allways telling this to people , but in such a high quantity/year , not realy . CoO , CC , MHP2G , Dissidia and KH : BBS are allready hyped to the skyes , and for the ratings ... afther all the hype it got , Im not shure that DQ9 will be that amazing , and except Japan it wont have nowhere else a big impact , especially not in Europe , where on the DS games like BRain Training , Mario & Sonic and Imagine Babies are the lead sellers ( OK , Imagine Babies is only in the top 30 :P ) .

Im shure that DQ9 will do over 5 million worldwide , but look at the much smaller instalbase of the PSP , and see that MHF2 made over 2 million , so those numbers arent that impressive as they used to be anymore ...

I forgot Crisis Core comes out this month. I'm tempted to buy a PSP already, butI sort of want to wait for the Red Kratos PSP. You know what screw Kratos, I'm buying a PSP already.

Looks like a lot of love for my PSP this year :D

yeah, so much for a console that can't sell games so developers won't make games for it anymore, no? ;)

Already 2 huge games for next year confirmed.

And I didn't even include Monster Hunter 2G in there because we all know it won't sell in this side of the ocean. lol

Considering that's pretty much the lineup for the whole year, for the PSP, at least one title is first party, and comparable consoles are getting about 3 times as many AAA titles, plus you mentioned a baseball game...

Not to hate, and the PSP 08 looks good, but I'm not sure that your PSP 2008 list disproves the fact that low software sales lead to less software developement on the platform.

It's just that, well, for the past 3 years, great PSP games have been few and far between. Sure, this year has a few good games, but don't you think that maybe it might be a coincidence they are all hitting at once, instead of a "zomg PSP is gonna get AAA titles at this pace for the rest of the generation."

"So much for the theory" with a small and non-aweinspiring game list as proof. Can't give you a win on this topic. :P

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
