The millionth thread on Vita and its failures? Leave it guys, the system will never be big anytime and most probably Sony won't make another handheld.
There are guys who love it but even systems like 3do had their fans.
I am glad Sony didn't have success with selling a system with proprietary memory which is way more expensive than usual sd cards.

The Vita failed because it wasn't a handheld PS2. They should have shrunk a PS2 down into handheld form and made it play PS2 games digitally as well as PSP and PS1. Thing would have sold by the bucketloads.

They did, 3DS sales will probably be half or less than the DS. The thing is, Nintendo had their franchises and Monster hunter to sell the platform.

In a market where the 3DS needed emergency measures to right itself in the beginning and probably won't even catch up to the PSP, a premium "console on the go" approach was pretty much doomed from the start. There was never a big enough market for the system to be successful outside of Japan, regardless of how Sony handled it. |
This. Sony should have aborted Vita plans as soon as they saw what was happening with the 3DS.
Nintendo drastically cuts 3DS having all the japanese and Nintendo own frachises to count and yet Sony chooses to follow a bad plan. It was stupid really.

I love extra credit! And I think theyre quite right; vita and 3DS had similar problems from the get go, somehow the 3DS overcame those while vita didnt. Although, comparing last gen with this gen the vita should have sold something like 20m units this far, but it hasnt. I wonder if the vita audience simply isnt buying enough games. Someone here said the Vita has a very high tie ratio, but that doesnt mean that games sell well, only that a lot of games are sold. Uncharted Vita (best selling vita game) hasnt sold as much as Ocarina of Time, a remake. OoT released when 3DS wasnt selling well at all, bjt has still managed to outsell the best selling title on vita. I think thats quite telling
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Why, no one ever believed a handheld other than Nintendo's would outsell a Nintendo handheld :) I think we are talking about sucessful here. Vita would be sucessful (without outselling 3ds of course, god forbid that possibility), in a world without smartphones. I even think smartphones offer a more direct competition than 3ds itself.

Insane memory-card prices and Sony completely misjudged what people wanted from a handheld.
There were several reasons so I just chose other. The biggest among them being price and the 3ds having something people were interested in (glasses less 3D). Pushed by a lack of software and ports of their best software going to the PS4.
Man, so much misinformation in this thread, it's not even funny.
I mean, seriously, I get that certain people hate the vita and anything Sony related but how about you do some research before posting something entirely inaccurate? You think only cheap indies sell? Do some research. The games that keep topping the digital sales charts are expensive games like Sword Art Online that costs £35. That's right, full price. It was the same case with Assassin's Creed, COD, Killzone, Football Manager and Uncharted among others. You think the attach ratio is low? Do some research. It's actually high. You think ps+ games count as sales? In what universe that counts as a sale? In one of their presentations they even clarified that they meant games that people paid for. Not free games. So, ok, you didn't watch the Sony presentation where that was mentioned. Why assume/suspsect the worst without any proof? Either do some research or don't post anything at all.
As for ps+ and developers being afraid to release game on it? Completely wrong. Despite the impression that the internet and especially forums give you, the vita owners with ps+ are a minority. The entire ps+ userbase before ps4 was about a million. Even if 50% of them were vita owners, that would still be a small number. You also need to take into account that not everyone who has ps+ has the same mentality ("I'll wait till it hits the ps+"). So it should like a few hundred thousands at most.
The whole 3ds situation. Yes, Ninty saved the 3ds which was struggling after spending tons of money to support it. Sony was in no condition to do the same. Still, despite all of Ninty's efforts the system is massively down in the West. How anyone can deny the impact that mobile phones/tablets had on handhelds is beyond me. Then why is the vita doing worse? Simple. The psp sold well because it was a device that could do things that no other device with mass adoption could. When I bought it, I couldn't watch movies on my phone, I could use it as an emulator (never did, but phones do that now) and it was this cool new product from Sony, a company that had to that point a great success with consoles. Most of vita's cool features can be found in any smartphone.
Thank God for Zackasaurus' posts that somewhat saved this thread.

Just because you have great hardware doesn't mean the only option that exists is to make expensive graphics powerhouse titles. I think PS2 level graphics games like Persona 4 and FFX are more than satisfying enough for Vita owners. Publishers just don't know how to do distinguish what they are working on without a great shiny coat of graphics. I think that problem is slowly tanking the entire industry.
I voted for not enough games even though they did make it needlessly expensive. The 200+ price range competes with smart devices that offer way more features and games and storage than a comparable Vita SKU. If it had enough games that wouldn't have mattered though like expensive iOS devices.
