The thing with Pokemon is that Game Freak can reuse new engines to remake older games. It's really an amazing thing they've basically lucked into.

The 9 steps to yearly Pokemon releases!

1. Build new engine.
2. Design new generation.
3. Redesign old generation.
4. Redesign new generation.
5. Release new generation.
6. Release redesigned old generation.
7. Release redesigned new generation.
8. ???
9. Profit!!!

Example:
Platinum (2009), HGSS (2010), BW (2011), B2W2 (2012), XY (2013), ORAS (2014), Z (2015), Gen 7 (2016)

I don't really think there is that much difference between ports and remasters. Especially now with different consoles have different resolutions and frame rates sometimes anyway.

Yeah, there isn't many true remakes, but IMO that's a problem. Plenty of games deserve them and there is plenty of fans waiting to buy them. That's why they should bother, it's hard to make a new game and draw in a crowd, but if you already have parts of the game (story, writing etc) done and plenty of fans that will buy it the day it release then why not make a proper remake. At least Nintendo give that a go.

Oh and... @bold you assumed wrong.

Then I stand corrected. Just that I have come to expect threas like thee to come from people that have a bias.

Yes, there are very few remakes. And while I can think of at least 10 games right off the bat that I would want them to remake, you really have to understand why they don't. There is just no need pourying al those assets and manpower into a remake when you can just make a new game. Take FF7 for instance, can you imagine how many years it would take them to remake that game to the standard of say FF15, complete with a voice over cast and everything redone to match how games are presented today?

There are games that need a remake though, like a proper full blooded remake, but realistically.. i just don't expect that to happen.

FFX got a pretty amazing remake, with orchestral OST etc

Pokemon had a remake with AA tier graphics, using X/Y engine.

For the FF7 remake I can't see it taking any longer than making a new Final Fantasy game, really it should be quicker since a lot of the stuff is already decided for them. So I guess then it comes down to what would sell more, a FF7 remake or a brand new FF game? Hard to say at the moment, but if FF keeps going the way it has been then it won't be long until it is almost guaranteed that the remake would sell more than a new game.

I agree that it's unlikely many games will ever get remakes. But it's nice to hope.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA "Tidus"

Have you looked at sales from FFXIII or XII or X etc. the series has done really well with recent releases, now look at FFX/X-2 HD

They should honestly just remake FF7 on the 3DS in the meantime, just upgrade the real-time poly models and re-do some of the cutscenes. Something like that would sell an easy 7-8 million if they can't do a FFXV style remake.

To be honest I don't even think such a thing would so great, to make the graphics so detailed would take away a lot of the charm of FF7 IMO and make the more absurd nature of the characters just stand out more.

Also I'm amazed when I see most reviews of AA j-rpgs saying graphics are last gen level and environments look empty, than a pokemon remake comes out and everyone be like "wow amazing, if only all companies could do remakes like this"

I'm looking and I say FFX/2 HD having sold more than the latest release (Lightning Returns). That's not even a proper remake and of one that usually seems to divide opinion as well.

Sure lets compare it to a sequel of a sequel to a highly unpopular game -_-

It's only natural that Nintendo creates the best remakes since they create the best games in the industry.
