I don't really think there is that much difference between ports and remasters. Especially now with different consoles have different resolutions and frame rates sometimes anyway.
Yeah, there isn't many true remakes, but IMO that's a problem. Plenty of games deserve them and there is plenty of fans waiting to buy them. That's why they should bother, it's hard to make a new game and draw in a crowd, but if you already have parts of the game (story, writing etc) done and plenty of fans that will buy it the day it release then why not make a proper remake. At least Nintendo give that a go.
Oh and... @bold you assumed wrong.

Then I stand corrected. Just that I have come to expect threas like thee to come from people that have a bias.
Yes, there are very few remakes. And while I can think of at least 10 games right off the bat that I would want them to remake, you really have to understand why they don't. There is just no need pourying al those assets and manpower into a remake when you can just make a new game. Take FF7 for instance, can you imagine how many years it would take them to remake that game to the standard of say FF15, complete with a voice over cast and everything redone to match how games are presented today?
There are games that need a remake though, like a proper full blooded remake, but realistically.. i just don't expect that to happen.
