Seems fair so I don't see what's wrong with it.

Why isn't anyone else doing it, if it's "fair"?

Maybe they will do it eventually.

Nintendo is not known to be a leader when it comes to Online gaming. So i'm not sure why others would look up to them in something anti consumer like this..

How is it anti-consumer? If you decline, you won't recieve any future updates... But that doesn't mean it will lock your console if you decline... The only way it will lock ur console is if you hack it or pirate games:

After your Wii U System is updated or changed, any existing or future unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U System, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your Wii U System, will render the system permanently unplayable.

Isn't that what OP is saying? I can understand not being allowed online. But you should be able to use the console offline. If the last is correct, then this is normal and OP should be clearer.

PS: excuse the wall of quotes, i'm on mobile!

Ahhh.

GOOD.

Well... The OP just followed the title of the article which is also somewhat wrong... The only issue with this is that there isn't a "decline" button but again, you don't have to update cause you can easily restart the wiiU (at least according to some of the comments) and not go through with the update and nothing will happen apart from the fact that you can't go online and recieve future updates... "Offline Mode" will work retardless

I guess don't pirate your games then.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Pirating can only be anti-gaming, not anti consumer.

I'm sure that if you dont do the system update, theres no way they can lock your console. You lose online acess though. Its the price to pay for hacking.

But it won't let you decline. If you decide you don't want the update there is no decline button, only agree. It just displays the user agreement until you feel like agreeing. It won't let you do anything, not even go to the settings.

Well... Can't you just restart and not connect to the wifi? I am trying to find more info on this but it seems to be quite hard to find...

Nope, check out the video on the link. It doesn't matter if you disconnect, when you boot it back up it will display the user agreement.
