Forums - Gaming - Has Naughty Dog put themselves on a lose-lose situation?

I do see them being criticized heavily now because of their status but i think they'll deliver something out of this world with Uncharted 4.

It's very tough to keep getting 95+ Meta since equaling prior class is not enough. A 95+ Meta game has to blow our minds again. The game has to be incredible, or the reviewer must be drunk. I'm looking at you Gamespot Bayonetta 2 reviewer :-p.

I think I have more faith in ND more than any developer to pull it off though, and the Uncharted 4 teaser looks like an impressive start.

My 8th gen collection

Uncharted has a quite large fanbase.(myself included).
They are the ones U4 is aimed at.They are the ones who will judge the game.Even if it is a 85 (which is good) It doesn't mean that it will be worse than the previous ones.
Look at Dark Souls for example. DSII has higher metascore than 1.
But DS fans generally agree that DS1 is the one that's superior.

I actually think tlou and uc3 arent as good as uc1 and 2. So whatever that means.

It's a one more incentive to continue creating wonderful games; Uncharted4 is the NEXT :)

A lot of developers would probably love to be in their position. I think they can deliver on Uncharted 4 but I must say I'm more excited for what they might develop next.

I'm very certain UC4 will be a great game. UC3 although not being made by the team of UC2, was already good .

My only complain was that the game could be beaten in an afternoon, very different from UC1,UC2 and TLOU.

Since UC4 is their entry in the PS4, I don't think they will make a 6 hour campaign again.

That's just like saying "Since no console will ever pass the PS2, every console will be a dissapointment."
But I think that's why they're ending the series (In addition to the story being complete, and that they just want to make something new.). You can compare one UC game with another UC game, but if the next game is a new IP, and entirely different from UC then comparisons don't work as well.

There is a simple secret to their success, they don't over stay their welcome in any particular type of game or genre. They try new things new ways while keeping a certain high level core of quality.

Ever since Crash Bandicoot, ND has been on an unbelievable streak. Not a single one of their games since then has been considered bad. It all peaked with Uncharted 2, which took numerous GOTY awards (and U3 did the same later)...

...or that's what we thought until the release of The Last of Us, the most awarded game EVER. The praises for that game were unbelievable (and deserved, imo, but that's another story).

Now here's my question: with such an amazing streak of fantastic games, the hype over anything ND does will be ridiculously huge... so have they reached a point where it's impossible to live up to the colossal expectations? Will people be disappointed at U4 (and then the next game, and then next...) because it's "not as good as their previous works"? It's even worse that reviewers seem to be really picky lately. Granted, I haven't played any of these games, but stuff like Second Son, Driveclub or The Wonderful 101 seem to deserve more than 70-80 metas.

Sounds pessimistic, but the thought just crossed my mind today. What do you think?

Maybe you should look to Rockstar as an example. GTA4 was a letdown to many, but people still buy Rockstar games + regard them as one of the best developers. This will be the same for Naughtydog for years to come. Rockstar = Naughty Dog
