Actually I fully agree with the Second Son meta score. But then again, last gen most of the games I played I thought got too high meta scores, and that includes the ones I like. There were only a handful of games that I rated higher than the meta score.

As to ND. If they don't use the powah of the PS4 to bring something fresh to UC4 other than way better graphics I can see it being heavily criticised. Even though I'm pretty sure I will like it as much as the previous games, even if it pretty much follows the UC2/3 formula. I would like to see more platforming, and more interesting puzzle elements. I would actually like less hoarde type gunplay. Probably a 50% reduction in the number of enemies in the main fighting sequences, but much better enemy AI, more demand for tactical combat than just hiding behind a barrier and pot shooting enemies. Even better might be a rebalancing toward more melee. Having said that I did like some of the UC2 and 3 levels where you get knock off quite a few enemies with stealth before getting caught and having to start a shoot out.

Slightly more demanding platforming where jump timing becomes more important would be good too.

If ND uses elements of TLOU and Tomb Raider 2013 as inspiration for evolving the UC series I think they can take UC4 to new places and give fans new experiences.

U3 already improved the melee. It was MUCH better than U2 on that regard, I really enjoyed the melee combat on that game. As for tactical combat and platforming, hum, I wouldn't hold my breath. The series is about dem setpieces (and I'm damn fine with that), and U4 seems to star an older Drake. So maybe they take away a little from the platforming? I really don't know.

And I'm fairly sure they'll use elements from TLOU on U4. Both games do have the same directors after all. And TR 2013 totally felt like Uncharted, I'm not sure what they could take from the game that isn't already on the series =P

TR2013 melee > UC melee for starters. TR has a much more free roaming vibe to it, and consequently made better use of verticality in it's platforming / adventuring aspects. I think the puzzles with TR were better. Weapon ans skill modding were great, but I wonder if they will leave that RPG-like element to be a specific TLOU thing rather than bringing it over to UC. UC and TLOU do need to feel like different games styles, with some similarities, so there needs to be differentiation.

I predict that metacritic score won't be as high for Uncharted 4 as for The Last of Us, but I do feel like it will still definitely take home some GOTY nods. Not that I am doubting the potential of Uncharted 4, but moreso pointing out that this generation, the only 90+ rated PS4 games are ports of previous generation games.

That's because Naughty Dog hasn't released a game built ground up for the PS4, yet :D

Yes its a lose situation, how can you follow the last of us? Uncharted 4, Ha Ha .
OK I think we all know it will be good, but TLOU is perhaps the game of the generation, how can you follow that?
you cant, its all downhill

Well yeah, I don't think anyone expects them to top TLOU with UC4, but to say it's a lose-lose situation, as the OP suggests, I think that's just premature.  We've been given no reason to believe that ND's games will suddenly nosedive in quality.

Have faith in the Naughty Gods.

Jak 2 would be my only knock on their record. I seriously just don't know what went wrong with that game.

I do expect it to likely hit 90+ but I'm skeptical of a 95 or higher.

That's kind of a unfair expectation though, don't you think?  How many studios are able to pull off back to back 95+ games (Meta, anyway)?  Because...I'll tell you who hasn't, and that's Naughty Dog. 88, 96, 92, and 95 (strange that UC2's meta is higher than TLOU), unless you count TLOU and TLOUR (which is silly).  If people are expecting ND to produce nothing but 95+ meta rated games, that's just stupid.  And yeah, they'll very likely be disappointed...but that's more on them, than on ND.

I think that depends on which way ND decide to go with the next game. I honestly don't think we'll see another TLOU game and they are wrapping up UN next year. I leaves them open to a whole wealth of opportunities.

I for one and really excited to see what they come up with.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

80? Is that Golden Abyss? That wasn't made by Naughty Dog.

Ahh ok, well, remove the 80, and my point still stands, even ND hasn't produced back to back 95+ titles.

EDIT: Removed the 80 from the original post.
