then yeah...

Well, I think that this GTA IV will show us the actual demographics of the series.  I have personally been wondering just who exactly buys it. 

To get to the point, I also think that the other GTA games sold mostly to casuals.  If this is true, and a majority of PS3/360 owners are core gamers, then we can probably assume that the sales of GTA IV will be quite a bit lower than the ones before it.

Now, having said that, I still think that GTA IV has a good chance of breaking 10 million units over its life if it has good legs. 

 

Just who buys GTA? In my experience working at Gamestop for over a year and a half, you have two types of people;

1) The Tweener. About 75% of the people who buy the GTA games are parents who's 11-12 year old kid begs and pleads for them to buy them the "awesome game their friend told them about". Parents, not knowing anything about video games (and despite the fact we tell them it's rated M for sex, violence, etc), buy it for them.

2) The "Homie". This particular archetype is anywhere from 17-25, male, and even if they're old enough to to have graduated college, they're still living with their mom. Will most likely walk in the store in a wife beater with a real shirt hanging over their shoulder and a slight lean from when they got shot protectin' their turf in the 'hood'. G.

And this, in my (anecdotal) experience, is who buys GTA.

I could see 6 million on 360 this year.

About 5 million on PS3 this year.

I bet either console version will outsell SSBB. Even the PS3 version.

11 million sounds about right. I intend on playing both versions of GTA 4, the better version I will be buying. I wonder if there will be issues such as poor framerate, long load times, etc.

I could very well be wrong, but I'll be surprised if the game reached 6 million on both consoles combined.

The the Wii is widening the gaming demographic beyond that of the last gen GTA casual. We will still see those millions of ps2 owners flock to GTA4.

I think The Sims or Pokemon is the biggest selling franchise looking at sales per game, GTA is maybe third.

the main reason that COD4 is at 7 million is because the christmas season. i have no doubt that cod4 would have eventually sold 7 million in its lifetime, just not this fast. if it werent for the christmas season then it would have taken twice as long for it to reach 7 million.



the nintendo wii will outsell the ps3 and the 360 combined by the end of 2008.                           

        PS3 will out sell the 360 june 2010.                                                                      

  GOTY of 2008 is super smash brothers brawl.... hopefully.

GTA franchise: 6.122 per game.

pokemon franchise: 7.765 per game.

wii franchise: 10.366 per game.
