Lol this is eerily similar to Nintendo's handhelds
PS2- 157m DS- 154m
PS1- 104m GB- 118m
PS3- 83m GBA- 81m
Difference of just 9m

Yes. Sony home console and Nintendo handheld is the best of both worlds. Nothing else needed.

Its a great achievement but that means 2/3 of their consoles were below the average.

So what your saying is MS are the best with 50% of their consoles selling above their average?? =P

Lol, finally Xbox is first in something!

Thats a great point. Do you think the PS2 was out of the norm and should not be counted? The way I see it you're not as good as your best performance and you're not as bad as your worst. That leave s just the PS1 which is right at about the avg.

No, there's no reason to not include the PS2 but it does skew the average. Without the PS2, the average would be much lower.

True, but the average without PS2 would still only be topped by the Wii (from another company), so it's still amazingly good. And also, I have hopes that the PS4 will beat this average (yes, I have hopes of the PS4 selling more than 115m), so when that is included the number should be more stable.

I agree with this. I also think the PS4 will end around 115-120m. If so to maintain a 115m avg through 4 gens thats just........idk redic.

PlayStation's numbers are really impressive when you think about it. The PS2 alone has sold more than half of the sales of all Nintendo's home consoles combined. And Xbox + Nintendo home consoles combined just barely outsell the combined sales of the PS home consoles.

This brand is truly a beast.

Just let that sink in for a second. No other competitors have hit that make with there best selling console nor have come close. How do they do it? Is it a standard thing like every tissue is a Kleenex, every Monster Truck is a Bigfoot, every gaming console is a Playstation? World recognition?  At times it seems they dont even know why they are selling so well. Any way I was just really amazed at that figure and whated to know what the community thinks. Also does that mean if the PS4 dosent sell 115 Mil than it is a failure?

Playstation has had a knack (hehe) for hitting the right spots at the right time. PS1 had the CD going for it as well as being the first console to offer adults the ability to play games without fear of being called immature. PS2 had DVD playback and it also had a LOCK DOWN on third party support the likes we will never see again. The PS3 had Kevin Butler and the Slim which was able to change it's fortunes at just the right time. Throw in some of the most clever advertisments of all time that appealed to gamers in just the right way and you've got your answer.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that world wide, Sony is a much more popular brand as a whole.

Whoa never relized that. Indeed the brand is truly a beast. I would like to add tho if it was not for the competition I do not believe we would have the great systems that they were  and are. And vise versa
