Forums - Nintendo - Real reason big budget 3rd party games are not on Nintendo systems

Iwatas answer re 3rd parties was dose generous at best - if Nimtemso wanted 3rd parties on the Wii u they would be there - Nintendo would have to make it viable for 3 rd parties to release games on the Wii u and or take on some of risk until they have. More proven 3rs party business model - Iwata knows all this but he is implying Sony and MSFT have to pay for all their 3rs party content which is far from true. The majority of their profits comma from third parties

Funny thing is I disagree on this. If you really think about it, do you really think Destiny wouldn't have sold on the Wii U? How about GTA V? Or the recent success of Fifa 15 (Last Fifa game on the Wii U was Fifa 13, which sold 660k copies. Not bad). Plus there is a world wide Futbol craze ATM.Fifa had a very strong chance to sell a million copies at the end of it's cycle.

Even GTA: China Town Wars sold on the NDS (1.3Million Copies sold). I think bringing those franchises to the Wii U would have helped move Consoles if Nintendo advertised them right (especially GTA V, It could have been the difinitive verison of the game for the Wii U, with the built in Mic and a map on the gamepad would have done wonders for the gameplay).

But then again, it's Nintendo's EGO that is again their Achillies Heel. Their ego was responsible for the rise of Sony, and continues to hurt them to this day. They REALLY have to stop Alienating themselves from fellow devs. It's like Nintendo feels they don't even deserve to sit on the same table with these devs to eat since they feel they are so much "HIGHER" than everybody else...

That's why rayman has a trophy in smash. Thats why they secureed games with tecmo platinum and valhalla studios.

You are confusing developers with publishers...

my mistake... something didnt feel right as I was typing this too... I'll fix it right now...

thats true but i think the point he is making is that the games are STILL available. Ok so Sony might have paid to have some exclusive or locked CONTENT. But its not like MS had to pay to have Destiny on their systems. Where is Destiny for Wii U? exactly

So then why ISN'T Destiny on the WiiU? Maybe... because someone didn't pay for it, one way or another. Like, for example, how Sony/M$ give ATVI a discount and "benefits" of online profits (which is impossible to be provided for the WiiU... since, you know, its free).

that makes no sense, cause the game is also on PS3 which has free online. Hell by that logic the game wouldnt be on PC either. It isnt on WIi U because Ninty probably didnt even try to get it on the system.

Edit: and what about single player games. Stuff like say the new Batman game? there are no online profits there.

Not exactly surprising, when they leave out features and then sell it at the same price as the other versions.

Can you name a big budget 3rd party title that released on a Nintendo system, was released at the same time as other systems with all of the same features, was advertised equally with the other versions, and still struggled (semi-relative to install base)?

Rayman Legends

The Wii U version came in only behind the PS3 version, a system with an 80 million user installbase compared to Wii U's what at the time? Three-to-Five million? And even with that, the PS3 version only edged out the WU version by about 80k units, so big whoop. How well do you think the Wii U version would have done if it actually released in March of last year like it was supposed to, when there was no competition for it, and before pissing off the Wii U userbase?

I'm not even trying to claim third party efforts on Wii U would sell just as well as on other systems if they were given true parity. I just think you need to find a better example.

Sorry but to me that does sound like an excuse. I mean you're clearly ignoring the fact that Rayman Legends had much less competition on wiiu than on ps3. Plus, we don't have any data from Ubisoft so the difference (including digital sales) can be much larger or of course smaller. Considering the well-known problem that vgc has with tracking ps3 hardware and software globally (not in the us), I'm inclined to believe that it's the former.

Fucking pathetic... Nintendo is still way too caught up in doing their thing, even if it's blatantly obvious that's it's wrong or outdated. That's why they're in their current situation.

Who "pays" for games to be on PC?

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Nintendo conditioned third party not to sell on their consoles by having bad ties with third parties for multiple generations so people were conditioned only to buy first party from Nintendo.

I was comparing it with the PS4

Which was a version of the game released 4 months later, to an install base which was very close at the time to the Wii U's, and still didn't sell as much.

Hindsight is 20-20. Here is the thing Nintendo was never going to compete with Sony and Ms because they are not big enough to do so. So it was inevitable that things were going to end up this way. All thats left is for them to figure out there own market, which time will tell. If they dont then they dont. But trying to bankrupt the company by keeping up a bidding war with MS and Sony is certain death.
