Forums - Sales - XB1 will last the longest!

MS will try to come with Xbone 2 first...

Around the Network

I would say the XBox One would last longer from a wear and tear standpoint, but that would be a lie. What AMD giveth, Microsoft taketh away. That is the way it has always been.

I dunno.  The original Xbox had a short life but the Xbox 360 is still getting support even though it launched in 2005.  It didn't get a successor until 8 years later while the PS3 successor came 7 years after launch.  Not saying M$ is better or worse.  I'm just saying the next consoles will release when/if there's demand for it.  At least both companies are making hardware that lasts longer than five years, huh?

Well lets compare them

2013

360 (year 8): GOW Judgement

PS3 (year 7): TLOU, Dragons Crown, Tales of Xillia, Disgaea D2, The Guided Fate Paradox, Gran Turismo 6, God of War Asencion, Beyond Two Souls, Aquapazza, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix etc (it really got more exclusives that year but im not gonna look for all of them.) OH just remembered Puppeteer came out also on 2013

2014

360 (year 9): Titanfall (since its on PC i wouldnt really call it an exclusive but lets leave it in for the sake of competition)

PS3 (year 8): BlazBlue Chronophantasma, Drakengard 3, Akibas Trip, Tales of Xillia 2, Fairy Fencer F, Ar no Surge Ode to an Unborn Star, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Guilty Gear Xrd, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, Yakuza Ishin, Natural Doctrine, Hajime no Ippo, Godzilla, Little Big Planet 3 etc. (yes there are more games that i didnt list because i dont remember them all)

2015

360 (year 10): ------ (researched and couldnt find anything announced and every article talks about the X1 at this point on)

PS3 (year 9): Tales of Zestiria, Persona 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Gundam Breaker 2, Awakened Fate Ultimatum.

2016

to early to have announced games for both platforms but i wouldnt be surprised if we still got some more japanese games for the PS3.

Now lest compare the years

Year 8:

360: got 1 exclusive (its last real retail exclusive GOW).

PS3: got a ton of exclusives (more than 10)

Year 9:

360: Titanfall (shouldnt count as an exclusive since its on PC but lets leave it in...) so depend on how you want to see it the last 360 exclusive could be on year 8 on 2013

PS3: as of now we know of about 5 games to be released including big JRPGS like Persona 5 and Tales of Zestiria

Year 10:

No info yet...

Conclusion

the 360 got 1 game every year since 2013 and depending how you want to see it the last real exclusive would be GOW on 2013, on the other hand the PS3 has been getting a LOT of games since 2013 till now and if you want to compare it in years that the console has been out, it has also put out more games in its last years (8 and 9th year), and they are actual exclusives unlike titanfall, and i really wouldnt be surprised if it gets some games for 2016 as well.

NOTE: if i missed some 360 games or if i was simply wrong about anything please feel free to correct me.

Microsoft has a near monopoly on the OS of computers, yet they have struggled to catch Apple in the phone and tablet sectors with their Windows equivalents. I don't see them suddenly convincing people to buy an Xbox because of Windows 10, especially at $399. People can rationalize a phone because it does so much and the games are a bonus. A gaming console is for games with the applications and all being the bonus.

As for sales, with Sony having a greater global presence I'd be surprised if the X1 in 5-7 years is doing as well comparatively to the PS4 as it is now. The marathon favors Sony.

Consoles are always defined by the games they have. That's what determines how well they sell and how long they remain relevant, all the rest is in the "nice to have" category. So if Microsoft wants to last the longest it needs to beat Sony in the games department.

I'm not saying they can't or won't but outlasting or outselling will not come from Window 10 integration or any other side feature. It has to come from games.

I agree 100% that games are the most relevent feature of a gaming console.

The reason I bring up Windows 10 integration is that M$ has developed an OS that will all apps/GAMES developed for it to work on all devices without need to recode for each kind of device.  THe development time for the app/game will be dramatically reduced if they can make it once for 100's of millions of devices with only one iteration.

So, there will not be 100's of games, but 10's of thousands of games!  Sure, they won't all be AAA, but as we have all seen, the small indie games are getting better and better.

Games won't be the problem, the problem will be how to find time to actually play them!

So what is the selling point to Xbox One then? Because right now I would figure that this benefits Tablets and Phones more than it does a set top box that obviously can't fit in your pocket. We as gamers already have access to thousands of games through our phones, but we buy into consoles to play games that give off a console experience, not because we want to play Flappy Bird on a 60'' inch screen.

nooooooooo, case and point PS3

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Are people just dying for Windows 10 on their Xbox? I mean what can it actually do? Run a few apps? Oh don't tell me you actually expect XBO to run the full Windows OS?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

OP sounds like he works for MS

Am I the only one who plays my PS4 or any console for games? IU couldn't give a crap about apps and added features. I just want to play games games and games. In the comfort of my living room on my couch. I must be a dying breed.

I'm not a fortune teller so I don't know. But wouldn't it be funny if the call the Xbox One successor the Xbox Three Sixty?

I'm still bummed they didn't call the XBO, the Xbox Infinity like it was rumored. Had they chosen that name, the naming of the successor who have been easy: Xbox Beyond.

I thinkboth those names were crap. The Xbox 720 was the way to go but I guess they thought they'd get too much stick and be slagged off as a 720p machine. Either way I think it would have been much better. The 360 was a great name but if it was called the Xbox 2 I think they would have been in a much better place to call the xbox one the xbox 3 or even the xbox 360.

Names are not everything but as seen with the Wii U it can give it a big identity crises especially when SOny's names are so simple yet effective.
