Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Exclusive Sunset Overdrive is "The Opposite of The Last of Us" says Insomniac

Rail grinding/robots/platforming. And it doesn't have zombies but monsters.

It doesn't matter if the enemies look different. You do the same things to kill them and they're structured similarly.

But yeah, there's rail grinding. It's Dead Rising with color and grindy bits, the same way Titanfall was Call of Duty with mechs. Doesn't make it bad, but the originality is a facade. It's definitely derivative.

Will it get negative scores too?

@faelfo i don't really think its a poor title choice and and its not like insomniac wrote the article.

I dislike excessive HUDs. I can only play the Last of Us on grounded now because it has the perfect amount of HUD. Survivor and lower shows you nothing at all if you disable the HUD and too much if you don't.

4 ≈ One

Sooo... its gonna be the worst game of all time? That's not great

A quote taken out of context for the sake of controversy.

Haha uuuhhh? The opposite of one of the most critically acclaimed games of last gen (or this gen technically). To be honest it looks like the opposite of the Last of Us...I.e. bad.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I agree, but come on, if you say something like that, the journalist will obviously use it for the title !

It's a great headline for a website and it will be the main focus for the audience (this thread is a perfect example), so whatever he really said won't be remembered. Only "Sunset Overdrive is the opposite of TLOU, the game of the last generation". So, a poor choice of words.

It seems he's talking about the level of immersion, which makes sense. TLoU is supposed to transport you to that world, while SO seeks to create a more arcade type experience, where you're constantly aware that you're playing an over-the-top game. GTA vs. Saint's Row would be a good comparison, as SR constantly shatters the fourth wall with glee.

As for personal impressions, there is a lot I like about SO, from the humor to the customization to the art style to the story but, damn it, zombie horde games do nothing for me. I want to like it but I just can get excited about the game-play.

I'll take it as that.
