Can someone provide Hardware last week numbers for comparison reasons? I want to know the boost of FF V, I know it was very small, but not how small.

X-One is saved?

WiiU HW is up, that's actually nice, Fatal Frame is ok I guess, but my expectations were a bit higher.

3DS is just beasting as regular, it won't be a DS, but it's showing who's the boss in Japan.

Bayonetta had a sharp decline, I guess there won't be any unexpected legs.

fatal frame V a better system seller than Bayonetta 2 :P

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Edit. Double post.

But, I may ask, can someone link those comments defending Bayonetta's poor FW?

X1 is completely saved! In another 600 weeks or so they have a chance at making it to 1m in Japan if they can keep this blistering pace up!

It's not bad, I just wanted it to do really good.

In a perfect world a game like this sells hundreds of thousand copies. It is one of my most anticipated games and I am pretty confident it will be released in the West. Fatal Frame has never been a big seller in Japan but that hasn't stopped it from being localized in the past (with the exception of IV).

and the Wii ports of the first two...

Ah, see; I already knew that!

Legs in general in games today is a rarity; it has become more and more front-loaded and we're seeing massive first week sales that lead up to rather unimpressive (relatively speaking) lifetime sales many times in the last decade or so.

I wonder why that is though. More people buying used? People buying digitally? Or maybe the quantity of games and advertising nowadays means people just buy the next big thing instead of a game from a couple of months ago.

Used game market is huge. It's how shops are still able to make money despite industry sales being way down. That's why sellthrough is so important for certain genres, but there's already copies of used bayonetta 2 in stores. This isn't a slight against the game, but just a statement about why certain titles have legs (replayability, market appeal, and being the first software with new HW purchases) and others don't. Also want to mention that trade-in prices are much higher than what they are in the US.
