Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does Shadow of Mordor Run at 720p/30fps on Xbox One?

Developers that focus on the PS4 version first will have bigger gap in performance, while those that focus on the Xbox One will have a smaller gap. The more the PS4 outsells the Xbox One, the more likely the PS4 version will become the main focus. Why can't we just leave it at that.

The differences are helpful when deciding on which version to purchase, but why do we dwell on it? It is what it is.

In case you haven’t already heard, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a fantastic game. It takes all of the best Lord of the Rings lore, adds some new stuff of its own, and builds a dynamic action game around it. If there’s one thing proven it’s that the game looks fantastic on PS4. Running at 1080p at an unlocked 60fps, the entire experience is smooth as butter and looks exactly like what a current-gen game should look like at this point.

One thing that’s been concerning is the fact that Warner Bros. and Monolith have been a mum on the Xbox One version. There’s been no confirmed reports about its performance and whenever the game is demoed, it’s been demoed on PS4. More still, no (or very few) Xbox One review copies were supplied to publications.

Now that the game’s release is only two days away, some have been able to get their hands on Xbox One copies of the game. Streams have been infrequently occurring in the past 24 hours and what we’ve been hearing from them isn’t good. There’s been multiple reports that the game runs at either 720p or 900p at a locked 30fps. We’re seeing reports of 900p (or sub-900p) more often than 720p, but there hasn’t yet been anybody reporting it runs higher than 900. More still, the consensus is that it doesn’t cross the 30fps line.

Of course until we can do a proper analysis of the game, this should all be taken with a grain of salt, but the fact that these reports are coming from Xbox One-centric streamers means they’re worth keeping an eye on.

This article is wrong:

The PS4 game is 1080p capped at 30fps with high quality motion blur.

From screenshots the XB1 game appears to be 900p probably capped at 30fps too.

The only notable difference between both versions appear to be the usual resolution gap: 1080p / 900p both games running at a capped 30fps.

PS4 runs unlocked... it is not capped but we don't know how much it variates over 30fps.

Xbone is locked 30fps.

I use 1080p 60fps capture hardware for work. It's unlocked and above 30, but I haven't tested anything else.

The X1 version has some atrocious IQ issues as well, it's more than just 900 v 1080. But still the article is incorrect about 720p. Possibly the terrible IQ fooled someone into thinking 900p was 720p. 900p can be okayish with the right AA, AF, AO, etc. Look at Ryse for example. It's a bit soft and blurry, but not chunky and nasty looking like X1 Som. In fact Som is the ugliest X1 multiplat since Ghosts. Find the screens on Beyond3d and check out the horrible aliasing and texture clarity.

I saw it live and it is definitivily not 30 locked... it runs over 30fps.

What video? Can you post it?

The lack of AA made people guess they are playing a 720p game... but it is over 720p in my opinion.

Texture filtering is the biggest issue in the Xbone version.
