Forums - Sales - Destiny PS4 beats Titanfall sales on XB1 after only 1 week vs Titanfall's many months!

Teamwork is essential. The changes in the workplace environment will have an impact on how well the team works, let alone when that team is only fragments of its former self. Mistwalker for instance was nowhere as good as it was when the team was a part of Square..

This, and Bungie is far more loved than the guys who created uninspired games like Call of Duty. We both know Call of Duty doesn't have the best reputation among hardcore gamers. It's hardly comparable to Bungie.

You can try and downplay all you want, but getting 40 members from IW, including the top guys, means that Respawn is basically the new IW.  Also, its not a bunch of casuals buying COD, those are core gamers.  You may not like COD, and personally, I don't really care for it myself.  Then again, I feel the same way about Halo.  Still, that doesn't change the fact that it is one of the most popular games of last gen.  It also didn't stop One fans from hyping Titanfall to no end.

well the ps4 has twice the user base as the bone so................this would be impressive with destiny selling 2x TF numbers or more.

look at it from a percentage stand point.

about 20% of ps4 owners are interested in destiny

and around 40% of xbox 1 owners are interested in Titan fall. so chances are if titan fall was a multi plat, destiny would have a hard time climbing that hill.

what should be compared is xb1 destiny vs xb1 titan fall.

Give Destiny the 5 3/4 more months we're giving Titanfall and it will probably be over 2x the amount Titanfall sold.

Talk about downplaying like a mofo.Titanfall was given away for free,"FREE"and was the next coming of Christ.Congrats to Destiny.

Basically this. The Kinectless X1 was not out at the time and getting Titanfall for free with an X1 + Kinect was the best deal. Meanwhile, you either had to pay the full $60 for the standalone game or an extra $50 with the PS4 bundle.

MS also cut the price of the Titanfall bundle to $449 a few weeks before launch, so it was effectively much cheaper than the PS4, as you would have to pay ~$520 for PS4+Infamous+PS Camera.  Or if you take out the camera, they were the same price.

Hypocritical, really, the people talking about userbase. People have made similar arguments about the Wii U vs PS4 or Xbox One, and it's always been brushed aside by either of the two camps.

So..............brushing aside the obvious elephant would be favorable because some people (no clue who and what you're referring to)

have shown a different stance on some other thing?

This logic should be avoided. why bring random gripes from past arguments that are probably unrelated into something?

Personally I think the userbase issue here is too obvious to ignore.

Nah, per usual when it comes to Destiny you're incorrect. You're just as wrong here as you were in the other thread when you didn't know what grinding or farming were.

Are you telling me you were able to get light points and equip legendaries and exotics and stuff in the beta? No, no, and no. Were you able to realize how they would limit your progression through the game via weapon upgrades and limit your ability to progress through vanguard with weekly mark limits? No. Would you have any idea from the beta that armor would require shards that they would limit your ability to get in order to artificially extend play time? No. Hell, I find it incredibly funny that you're arguing that you can see basically the entirety of how a loot games mechanics work in a short beta that features less than 1/3 of the entire level cap and 1/4 of the skill tree. You're making my case about how broken the loot and progression mechanics are without even knowing it. Thanks!

You barely touch the story in the beta. There were basically 3 full planets of story left to be told. No way for us to know they are all shit.

There was no way for us to know what content was in the final game based on the beta. Just because there are 4 planets doesn't mean there is the same amount of content on each. This is extremely basic logic and for you to argue it tells me you're either too fargone to be taken seriously in this discussion or just pulling my leg. I think you'll just argue against whatever we say about Destiny for the sake of arguing. For example, here you'll say there is no grind in Destiny and you like the way drops and loot works. On the other forum some of you frequent you talk about having to break down Queen gear over and over for the shards because it's the best way to get them. aka grinding, and a flawed loot system. So yeah, not going to bother responding to you on this anymore.

And some people seem confused and keep replying saying "Xbox fans" are downplaying Destiny sales as not an accomplishment. No one said that. A new IP to sell well is an accomplishment and great for the industry. For it to outsell a game that launched on a console with a userbase like 1/3 of its size at the time... you guys saying it's an incredible accomplishment either:

A. Had zero expectations for Destiny. Must have thought it would sell 42 copies.
B. Had higher expectations for Titanfall than Zampella ever did in his wildest, wettest dreams. It might have supposedly been Xbox fans "Xbone savior", but for some of you it was apparently set to cure cancer and feed the worlds hungry judging by these hyperbole laced responses :)

I read just until the bold because your first claim was wrong.

Yeap we know before Beta about the Light and how to use it... it was told to us after Alpha and better showed to us via youtube (or IGN).

I just don't have time now to read more... later I will read it again.

Well yeah in that time the user base disparity should be even more lop sided than just 2x, so for the same reason on a larger scale, one version outselling the other would be more of an expected thing than an impressive thing.

If the xbox 1 version is still behind by that time I'd be more impressed by system crushing system than game crushing game.

Yet it got oversold by Destiny at PS4 in just a week.
All the hyperbolics you came across means nothing compared to actual numbers, I came across a lot of those both to TF and Destiny too.
Destiny at PS4 was way more hyped than Titanfall at XBO, and there's already data to prove it.
Numbers always show us the truth.

Hype <> sales

You can have a super hyped game and it didn't have good sales.

Titanfall was considered the Second Coming.

Personally I think the userbase issue here is too obvious to ignore.

Why don't we do some actual investigation rather than blind speculation, which has provided us with wonderful gems like "95% because of price".

Destiny: September 11th on all platforms, PS4 Userbase at the time 10 - 11 million (VGC)

TitanFall: March 11th X1 and PC only, X1 Userbase at the time 3 - 5 million [1] [2] [3]

That is a gap from 5-8 million consoles.

The time between releases was 6 months exactly, or 184 days.

VGC numbers (probably undertracked, does not include bundles, and digital)

Notice the distribution

figures in millions

Destiny PS4 2014 Action Activision 1.17 0.75 0.09 0.26 2.27
Titanfall XOne 2014 Shooter Electronic Arts 1.44 0.57 0.03 0.12 2.15

Its very interesting to note, that Europe and Japan, the regions that the XB1 is getting curbstomped in Destiny is outseling TitanFall. Furthermore, the userbase excuse isn't consistent when considering Destiny PS4 (US) vs TitanFall XB1 (US). If the PS4 is outselling the XB1 everywhere, wouldn't Destiny do the same if Userbase was the only reason?

Globally however, lets look at the sales over time versus the disparity in userbase, completely ignoring the fact that TitanFall had 173 days to increase its user base.

2150000/(184+7) = ~11,257 sales per day

2270000/(0+7) = ~324,286 sales per day

324,286/11,257 = Destiny(PS4) sold at a rate 29 times that of TitanFal(XB1)

8000000/3000000 = at most the PS4's userbase 2.67 times that of the XB1's userbase at the time of TitanFall

While this doesn't prove that the Userbase disparity is irrelevant, it does show that there are clearly a lot of other more significant reasons for this sales gap. Just dismissing it to userbase alone is obviously wrong and very foolish. Region alone, appears to be more significant then Userbase.

Of all the pointless threads...

Both games garned decent (Destiny) or good (Titanfall) critical receptions.

Both games garnered awesome (Destiny) or great (Titanfall) sales.

Why create a thread comparing a title that launched on three million or so consoles to ten as though its some achievement? More to the point, what is with the rabid, misplaced and unnecessary comparison's of two successful games?

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Congrats to Destiny, then.

So, if we can extrapolate figures from this, were can see that Destiny sold 5 million?

TitanFall. Furthermore, the userbase excuse isn't consistent when considering Destiny PS4 (US) vs TitanFall XB1 (US). If the PS4 is outselling the XB1 everywhere, wouldn't Destiny do the same if Userbase was the only reason?

So basically to simplify this issue we should just focus on destiny on the system that also has titan fall. If it outsells titanfall on the xbox one, chances are it would also outsell it had it been on the ps4.

But to compare something that released on a system with 11 mil units to something that released on a system that had 3 mil units sold at the time the game was "hot" and even today just 5 mil.....it makes no sense when you can just compare the xb1 versions.

It's a rare case were a multiplat title would beat another franchise in the ps4 numbers and lose to the same franchise when comparing the xb1 numbers. VERY RARE!

So all the research is largly a waste of time.
