Monster Hunter 3 launched in 2012. I will add Dragon Quest (curiously though it did less than Bayonetta 2)

Well, unfortunately for you not the case. |
Got your quarters mixed up. That's Q1 and Q2.
If you read my comments carefully, I provided a valid reason why Q1 2013 (through march) why is stronger than Q1 2014: Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest.
From there it's a matter of determining when and where Wii U sales collapsed. I'm pretty sure that in the West it was beginning to happen by end of Q1 -- but evidently it must have taken just a little longer in Japan.
What about Q3?
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

My bad. I figured it had launched closer to the western release. Yet still, being a december release it may have had some legs into january.

Doesn't look like it according to Mediacreate.
Guys, it was the tax increase. Sales around Japan will be on a low because of it.

It will be lucky to break 20 million. Wii-U has been tracking behind Gamecube so far and that system shipped 3,5 million in the last three months of it's third year. No way Wii-U is going to pull that off with only SSB, so Wii-U will only fall behind even further.

Surely 2014's line up should have made the WiiU sell better this year? |
What is VAT.
This isn't hard to answer if you know what's going on economically in Japan. Its hurting everything over there, not just the game's industry but the game's industry has been hit hard by it and its killing an already limping along console market, WiiU also lost most if not all of its momentum. Handhelds were hurt just as much, and mobile is going to get kicked in the nutsack when the tax kicks in on digital in 2015.
