Forums - Gaming Discussion - Destiny vs COD.........oh gawd

Call of Duty Ghosts sold 22.6m. So unless destiny does really well on PS360 it will doubtfully come close.

If we are talking only PS4/XBO well you need to consider that Ghosts came out a few weeks before on PS360 than PS4/XBO due to their launch dates.

From what it appears, most Call of Duty fans are still using PS360 with over 17m sold on those two platforms. In order for Destiny to have stopped Call of Duty it would need to take serious sales from CoD Advanced warfare on all four consoles.

Considering one is SciFi with its main focus on Co-op and the other a military shooter with a main focus on competive multiplayer and both being months a part on release, they are likely to not effect each other much. If anything effects Call of Duty it would be Battlefield as they are direct competitors. Halo to a degree since they release in the same month and also have a big focus on competitive multiplayer. Also Call of Duty stops its self.

It's certainly sad that Destiny's success will be hampered by the mediocre reviews. COD:AW will probably get a lot better score. Not that anyone who buys COD would care.

Well that could have been avoided... with a better game.

A decent campaign with good story could have put this game in the mid or high 80s. Two things Bungie has done well multiple times in the past. That's what brought a lot of people to Destiny and where it fails miserably.

If Bungie said, "we're just making a co-op shooter and putting little effort in story and campaign." Less people would have played the game and rightfully so. Instead Bungie mislead people about the product so people with little interest in a dull co-op shooter played it. The backlash Bungie has received from consumers and critics is deserved.

A better game that nobody will play...

Destiny is great like it is... have flaw to be fixed but it is solid, fun and enjoyable.

Your response doesn't make sense.

A better story and campaign would have made the game less successful? I'm not saying remove everything else, I'm saying those aspects should have been better.

People like you seem to ignore story and campaign in Destiny were awful, but Bungie pushed those aspects to get more people to play this game. This is why so many people are disappointed with the product. However, those who are content with a decent co-op shooter are more satisfied with the product.

In a nutshell, Bungie pulled a bait and switch.

IMO the story is good and like what I expected (and posted in GAF before release) that it will never ends and it will be counted in chapters... you get into the story via Dead Ghosts (like the Beta) and one of the issues is that the Grimories are not avaiable in game (you need to access via internet or mobile app).

There are a lot of questions in the story to be told in the future quests... the Queens ambitions and reasons is being told now in the Queen's event... who is the Traveler or where is he is anohter bigger question and every race is trying to find him... a lot of others things happened in the Destiny story.

The Campaign is a good 10 hours long and it is meant to be played in groups.

Bungie created this game for the whole generation and it is delivering... new chapter of the Campaign and Story will be told via Expansions but the Destiny Universe will never ends (it is like StarTrek or StarWars).

I think COD will sell much more than Destiny this year.

And the general consensus has been the story is garbage. It starts interesting and goes nowhere. Bungie failed to make the story compelling in the actual game. Bugie promised a lot delivered the bear minimum in that department.

The story missions are unbelievably tedious and you even explore much of the same areas in multiple missions. They don't even make you care about or curious about the enemies you're fighting.

I'm merely saying if they're going to market those aspects of the game, they should be good when the game is released. How much DLC and waiting is it gonna take before those aspects get interesting?

The campaign does not take 10 hours, especially if you're playing in a group. More like 6 hours. Frankly, the length of the story missions is fine. My gripe is they're boring and the story telling sucks.

A never ending story isn't the issue. I haven't gotten tired of the Halo story because it does a much better job at telling a story, has interesting characters, better writing, good voice acting, etc.

I'd recommend Halo, Mass Effect, Fallout, and other games like that if they're interested in a good story. Would I recommend Destiny for that? Fuck no, but Bungie mislead people into believing they were doing something great there.

All this questions is in the Grimories over Death Ghost... it told you every single part of the story, races and enemies... motivations and goals.

I agree they missed the opportunity to put the Grimories ingame... it was a bad decision.

They didn't just miss an opportunity, what they did was horrible. It was even downright deceptive marketing.

Having big plans down the road is no excuse for selling us half assed story telling. The first Halo and Mass Effect told and ended with a satifying story. Yet some people seem to think that's asking too much from Destiny.
