Wow at Bayo numbers. Can't believe many thought this and Hyrule would do anything for hardware (WW) when it's clear the boost is non existant now.
And now nothing until Smash in late November, which is 8 weeks away.

The first DKCR was on the Wii (Nintendo system) and actually sold 1 million units in Japan. The first Bayonetta was on the PS3/360 (non Nintendo systems) and sold about 300k units in Japan. Also DKCR was already a pretty leggy game in Japan it only sold about 15% of its lifetime units in its first week and about 65% after 4 weeks, the 3DS remake was also decently leggy, Bayonetta on the other hand sold over 65% of its japanese lifetime numbers in its first week (90% after 4 weeks) and the first Bayonetta reviewed just as well in Japan as the second did. It's extremely improbable. |
The difference in publishers matter. Nintendo can continously market a game whereas SEGA has always been more resource-constrained.
Let's consider another Platinum-produced IP The Wonderful 101 -- which had an even more horrible opening (less than 20k in first 10 weeks in Japan), yet the game has somewhat legged out over the last year to reach more than 50k. That's all owed to Ninty's deeper capability as a bigger publisher to position a game in the market for the long term.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Well the first Bayonetta was their best selling game and with 2 million copies sold it should have definitely warranted Sega to fund a sequel on the platforms the first game was on, but hey Sega once again proved that they are a completely moronic company with this.
Churn out one horrible Sonic game after another
Don't release their Yakuza games in the west
And the worst imo, make Valkyria Chronicles, an extremely promising new IP, and consequently destroy it by first taking it away from the platform it started on and making it a handheld game, then not even releasing the third game outside of Japan at all and eventually turning it into a browser game.
How people still act as if Sega is a good game maker is absolutely beyond me, I just seriously hope that they won't fuck up Atlus and Persona.

Nintendo barely even marketed TW101 when it came out, I'm not sure why you think long term marketing got it to 50k. VGC overtracking got it to 50k.

Maybe Atlus should teach Sega a lesson or two on how to properly take care of good games and game series.

I'm more than a little suspicious of the that W101 number, how does vgchartz even get the numbers for games that sell so little in Japan, since they obviously get the hogher numbers from MC and Famitsu.
What can I say... Bayo 2 did OK-ish... :/

Not improbable. Bayo 2 had a similiar opening to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, which has sold 110k copies in about 7-10 months in Japan. Over the next couple years, lifetime sales for that title will probably get to 200k. Why not Bayonetta 2? |
It has a different audience in a different genre, released in a less desirable time of year. It also sold 35% of its shipment, meaning the rest of the stock was likely discounted.
