Forums - Gaming - Does Sony Need to Counter Halo MCC?

MCC I think will drive up some sale but it's Halo 5 launch next year they need to counter.

I believe that's when Uncharted 4 will step up?

Yes, Sony should release a GOW: Kratos Collection having all 6 GOW games in one box for $60, all of them running at 1080p 60fps. Would sell a lot, especially in USA and PAL regions.

PS4 has the momentum and i really don't think Halo MCC is going to huge. Hardcore Halo fans are going to be the biggest buyers and they are the minority.

Your right it will get the hardcore halo fans but not the middle of the road halo fans. the ones who will buy when there is a new game but not remakes.

Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Counter Halo MCC? LOL Its a collection of old Halo games. Hell not even all the games are there. If we were talking about a new entry then year, but a collection of old games is not a big threat. Hell the series has actual been on the decline anyway and most people who would want that would have the system by now

1. It contains all mainline Halos

2. It comes with a mp beta of Halo 5

3. "on decline" still Halo 4 sold over 9 million. Looking at current sales of Xbox One there seems to be still more people who could be dragged into this.

I don't say much on these forums but I feel like I'd like to add my thoughts on this.

I'm honestly a Sony fan and have always prefered the games they offer, and although I've never really enjoyed the Halo games at all they do have a few things that I feel the Sony platform seems to have been missing out on for years now.

An FPS game series with:

  • Split-Screen co-operative game play
  • Split-Screen competitive game play
  • Easy to pick up and play mechanics
  • Variety in weapons and vehicles

The closest the Playstation platform has gotten to something like this is... Haze, if i recall correctly. That was at the beginning of the Playstation 3's and we all know how that went. The Killzone series was always a bit niche (Killzone 3 added split-screen co-op and aIthough I love the series I know it's not as easy for new players to get into) and the Resistance series (which dropped proper split screen after the first game, added a worse version in the second and dropped it completely in the third)

Halo has NEVER been known for its amazing campaign (most reviews call every games campaign disappointing/short/boring/uninspired in some way or another) or amazing graphics (Halo 4 was the closest that a Halo game has gotten to being called "great looking"), but it offers something for everyone in a tightly knit package.

In all honestly were Master Chief Collection or even the Gears of War collection to come to PS4 I would pick them up in a heartbeat!

But to answer the OP, yes and no. Yes, they need to counter the Halo MCC with something but it's not another remastered game. They need to create their own game with the potential to develop into a series, that allows everyone to pick up and play with or against each other (online or off). Not every game has to have the most amazing graphics ever created. I am sure some of us would settle for a game that offers what the Halo series offers and accept that there isn't a breeze blowing the leaf on the left of the screen away.

Or maybe i am just sick of telling my friends "No we can't play together... but you can watch"

You cant counter Halo, lets be honest here. Even if Sony was to announce Uncharted Remastered collection, it still wouldn't over shadow Halo. Halo has one of the biggest followings in gaming and while Uncharted are good games, it only appeals to a specific type of gamer while Halo appeals to many types of gamers for example Sci-Fi fans, Multiplayer fans, FPS fans etc. Halo 5 will be even bigger, its just the way this franchise is. Sony will most likely cop it on the chin and move on.

Halo MCC will appeal to Halo fans. Halo fans were already getting an XB1. Not really anything Sony could do about that.
